New Go Phone Reactivation Charge

Post by Jeff&Cindy »

Visited AT&T today to reactivate our Go Phone for the upcoming trip. They've instituted a new $25 charge to reactivate their Go Phones. That, together with the info in the thread I'm linking has me thinking No Go Phone this year.

I'm confused, did I miss something in that thread, I thought it was all about problems were verizon, not A T & T?

The reactivation fee is annoying, but I guess I can understand it - it's the only time a year that I use my GoPhone, so would kinda suck for them just to hang out there waiting for me to put money on it. Looks like you can get a refurbished phone with free shipping for 18.99 - Maybe I'll just order a new one and toss last years model?

So are you thinking you'll just go with verizon ? Seems expensive at 1.99/minute. My verizon phone gets turned off when we leave Miami and the calls get forwarded to the gophone

I visited AT&T about a month ago and went over their process ... put $25 on the phone and you're ready for another trip. So yesterday when they told me about their new additional fee for reactivating the phone, I was disappointed. So basically, the total price is now about $50/year. (and for us, we only used it to text our daughters... once or twice)

Oh... the thread I linked to -- the reason for the Go Phone in the first place was to deal with the problems of using Verizon on STJ. But in reading that thread, it looks like you can text (so long as you're not roaming) for free.

Oh, got it. So that makes sense for you then. My cell phone is my business phone, so I get lots of calls on it, not so much texts - making the gophone still cheaper for me. I would love to just use my verizon phone, but I think for me that would add up really quickly. I also worry about it picking up BVI towers, as we stay on the Coral Bay side of the island.

Hello, the Go Phone is the only way to go when compared to Verizon.
Verizon is $1.99 a minute and the Gophone is $2.00 a day wit unlimited useage.
I go to Radio Shack buy the cheapest phone for $20.00 and then buy a $25.00 useage card and have a total of $45.00 invested with 12 days of unlimited use.
If you don't use the phone on a certain day no charge for that day....Al

Al, way to go. I lost some serious money on my go phone account because I put off adding money timely to keep it going active. They de-activated my account, kept the money, so stupid me! I kept the phone active for 12 months but only use it on St. John for approx 30 days a year. I'll take your advice.
