? Feedback? Waterklip/Seascape/Cactus Flower Cottage

Post by mindehankins »

We're looking for accomodations in April. These three stick out for me. Does anyone have any feedback on these three?
Thanks, Forum!

I just responded on TA!
I know Waterklip pretty well but it had been a few years since I have been there.
The Ayers stayed there a few years ago

I have inquired about Cactus Flower but never pulled the trigger. It's not high up the mountain so I've always been concerned about the bug situation with it being close to the water. I'm a magnet for critters, I'll get 50 bites before my husband gets one, so it's a big concern of mine. The view is also not very substantial and one of my favorite things about STJ is the sweeping views. Other than that, it looks great.

Nice. They all look like great deals. The Chocolate Hole ones are surprisingly affordable. I wonder if they are actually as private as they appear to be? Of the 3, I personally incline towards SeaScape. For one thing, it has a hot tub as well as a pool. I always look for shade, and SeaScape seems to have a wraparound shaded deck. WaterKlip looks like it has covered decks, but facing south and west they might get too much sun in the late afternoon.

Cactus Cottage is smaller and simpler, but a great location if you are interested in hiking and exploring. I'm intrigued by the Fish Bay locations because of that, but will probably never stay at any of those places because my husband has limitations re walking. I'm also a lot lazier than I like to think I am, and probably would never really hike down to the water anyway.

I've sent an inquiry about Seascape, as I read that it's for sale, and a bit long in the tooth. And of course, I'm still investigating others. I'd rather just go where we've always gone, but I still have itchy bug bites and am convinced that they're from inside, this last trip.
I've gotten feedback here on Waterklip that's good.
I think we'll pass on Cactus Flower cottage.

Another thing that seems good about Seascape is that there aren't stairs to the bedroom. It seems pretty much set up like a ranch, which is good for me and end of the day mobility.

Since bugs are such an issue for you, Minde, why not head for the mountaintop where the trade winds blow all the time? And look for a big screened porch? Screened porches aren't all that common on STJ, but there definitely are some.

For affordable mountain villas with screened porches, check out Coconut Hill and Periwinkle (the Coral bay one).

And how if you prefer the Chocolate Hole/Grand Cruz area, what about Rosebay ? I'm not crazy about that location myself, but I think Rosebay is just adorable.

I don't know about staying in Coral Bay, Dreamshark. I have almost booked there a couple of times, but keep coming back to the familiar. I guess I just like the Cruz Bay side - where there are sandwiches LOLOL!
Coconut Hill does have beautiful views! Oh my gosh!
I heard from Cimmaron today, and they said that Seascape is not currently for sale, and they reassured me about a couple of other questions I had. But of course now I'm finding all these other places. I'll be happy when I've found our next place!

Was a hair-trigger away from renting Seascape three years ago when we got a super deal on Ellison. As long as you know that it is not an upscale villa, but more like a mountain cottage with a fantastic pool, hot tub and views to die for, I would go with Seascape. If I had to do it again I would choose Seascape over Ellison. Guess you really think I have strange taste. Waterklip looks nice too, but not as exotic as Seascape.

Nah, we don't require upscale at all. Glad to hear that about the view!
I've got another one in my sights now and going to try to pull it all together on Monday when we can do vacation requests. Fingers crossed that we get it done quick and painless! I found airfare tonight for $346, but can't buy until we get time off approved!
AND it's a couple weeks earlier than we normally travel, so St. John sooner come!

Good for you, Minde. I would have given my right arm to be able to rent Coconuts for our family trip in July, but no such luck. Like you, vacation requests for DD and S'IL made early planing impossible. Going low- scale this Wed for a week to relax and see some up-scale villas and make final decision while there. After many trips, I still get a kick out of choosing the villa, whether its a condo at Cruz Views or a villa at Peter Bay.
