A way to support our wounded veterans
So I signed up for this crazy 8Tuff Miles race in St. John next month and will be happy to finish, but I wanted to be sure to let everyone know that Moe (Maurice Chabuz) former owner of Skinny Legs will once again be participating and raising funds for Team River Runner’s St. John trip.
You can make a donation on his behalf to this great cause by mailing a check payable to Team River Runner and send it to Moe at PO Box 1265 St. John, VI 00831, checks can also be dropped off at Skinny Legs to Moe’s attention.
Finally, you can also donate to TRR directly through their page at www.teamriverrunner.org, under donate, be sure to select the “Virgin Islands – St. John” trip under donation target. This amazing organization is one I truly believe in and I hope you will do what you can to support our wounded veterans!

As a side note, if you know of anyone currently serving in Afghanistan, I head up a group through my church that sends care packages. We are doing a mailing late next week and would be happy to add to our mailing list! Send me a message and I'll be sure to get a package out!

Re: A way to support our wounded veterans
I completely support what Tracy is doing for our currently serving heros and our vets. I wanted to let all of you know that there are many choices to lend support to our wounded men and women when they come home. My favorite is Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Diving (SUDS). They take our wounded and teach them to dive. It is tremendously difficult and equally rewarding for the participants. They make regular trips to STJ and dive with Low Key. You can look at their web site here: http://sudsdiving.org/
It takes about $1,000.00 to send a vet to this program. We Forumites could send a wounded GI to this program by donating the cost of a single day of diving. It would only take ten of us to fund one soldier's trip to our favorite place in the world. Let's commit to doing that.

Re: A way to support our wounded veterans
Due to this forum, I've been able to add two names to our mailing list. If you know of a service member serving in Afghanistan, let me know soon as our mailing goes out Thursday!

Thanks Tracy.
I was serious about this forum supporting one wounded warrior to the SUDS program. The only way this happens for these brave heros is for you and me to send them donations. It ocured to me that someone has to take the first step. I spend about $100 for a two tank dive every time I get on the boat. I am sending that to SUDS. I need a few others to commit to the same amount to get one of these young men or women into the program. Will you be able to find some money to give to this great organization?
Thanks

Re: A way to support our wounded veterans
Alright Jim,
I donated $100 to Team River Runner in support of Moe from Skinny Legs and I will vow to donate another $50 to the SUDS program because, although I don't dive, I could easily spend that much in a few hours at the Beach Bar!
Anyone else care to support these brave men and women who have given so much for each of us??

Re: A way to support our wounded veterans
Thank you Tracy and Strat62. We need a few more people to step up and help sponsor a wounded warrior recover some of his or her life. These people gave almost everything for us. Let's see if we can give just a little of it back.

I am going to wrap this up and send the money to them. If you want to contribute to this cause, please PM me to work out how we will do this.
Thanks everyone.

Re: A way to support our wounded veterans
Hi Jim,
I suppose I should have waited, but I did already donate my $50 to the SUDS program about a month or so ago. Whether it gets a veteran to St. John or another wonderful location, I am happy to have helped in some way.
Hoping more people do the same. And don't forget that Moe (former owner of Skinny Legs) will be running next weeks 8 Tuff Miles in support of Team River Runner. World class photographer Steve Simonsen has a wonderful video on the cause - if you're on Facebook, search him out to take a look.
Thanks!

That's great Tracy. Thanks for your help. I am pleased to have them spend the donation anywhere they need it.
