rain, rain, and more rain....

Post by Dome526 »

Sigh....just reviewed the extended forcast for STJ. We arrive on 11/4, and take the wlak of shame on 11/19. Most of the days call for rain, rain, rain. Yup, I know rain = free water. With cisterms, that is important. But really? Our first visit, means bring a rain coat. This week calls for 86 degrees most of the week. PERFECT....until next week. Well, at least my wife won't get pregnant!

For your first rock trip, I am sure it is less than perfect to think of lots of rain. If it is only raining and no swells, snorkeling in the rain is a lot of fun! There are still lots of beaches, bays, shopping to do even if it is raining. Two things.....you will have a memorable vacation and will adjust; a rainy STJ vaca is better than any other place you have been! Hope you make the most of it and find ways to explore that fabulous place that most of us want to retire to!

I just replied to your other post but was wondering what your dates are. We arrive on the 11th. I will try to bring the sunshine with us!

Dome526: I wouldn't put a lot of stock in any long-range weather forecasts for St. John. A rain symbol every day is typically island-speak for "a shower may spring up at any time, and sometime during the day, probably will". The fact that it was sunny and beautiful ten minutes before, and ten minutes after, goes unmentioned. While November is typically the rainiest month, much of that is from large storms, for which there are none in the pipeline at the moment. Hang in there; your first visit will probably be fantastic!

What Kevin said. If you read the weather forecast, while looking at the Spice Cam, you'll realize how often the forecast is for rain, but the sun is shining. If you're really lucky, you'll get to experience a moment when it's really raining hard AND the sun is shining, cause that's a precious moment you'll never forget :D .
I do recommend picking up a couple of the $1 Walmart ponchos that are folded up really small, and keep them handy in your bag, in case of showers on your ferry arrival or departure.
