Favorite items from St John Spice
I have an idea of how to show our appreciation for Ruth and Ron keeping the web cam up and running for the many of us who need our regular glimpse of St John. I was drinking coffee from my St John mug, after enjoying a dinner with Valley Doll hot sauce, and looking at the lovely pillow cover from their store, and reading the recent trip report that talks about Kiss of Jumby coffee. How about if we post our favorite things from St John Spice. (Got the idea from mindehankins "favorite thing" thread on the OT forum.) It might give others some ideas for Christmas shopping
We have 2 coffee mugs - pretty blue and yellow with "St John" on them. They are the first ones listed on the website in the coffee mugs section.
Love the Valley Doll hot sauce and so glad to see it there. I think the person who previously made it (waitress at Shipwreck) passed away, so we thought we wouldn't be able to get it any more. Used it as a marinade for pork chops and it was yummy.
Pillow cover - Blue and tan pretty cover for a throw pillow.
My very fav - Decorative plate with a turtle carved into it, and woven stuff around the edges. (Hard to describe but very pretty and island-y. I really need to get a picture website, so I can post pics!)
My other fav - spices! Cruz Bay Grill Rub is awesome. Made Jambalaya with the Creole seasoning and it turned out great.

We definately LOVE the Cruz Bay Grill Rub. I sprinkle on many things. Our favorite is making the marinade recipe that is on the bottle. For the deer/elk hunters out there.. this marinade is AWESOME!
And for the dog lovers... my doxie loves her "island dog" collar

Love the Valley Doll Hot Sauce. I also get my fix of Trinidad Charlie's Pumpkin Pepper Sauce from SJS too! For spices I think their garam masala is fantastic! One of these days Ruth should try and bottle the smell of her store. I will be first in line to buy some of that!!!!!

Of course the Cruz Bay grill rub - hubby says to get at least 5 times as much on our next trip!
Also got some awesome tea there - don't remember the name, but it had Jamaican in it I think.
Love my "Occupy St John" shirt, always get comments on it.
I agree - if she could harness the smell of the store, I would buy loads of that!

Won't it be awesome if they sold candles in that scent?michigan girls wrote: I agree - if she could harness the smell of the store, I would buy loads of that!

Having Valley Doll on my egg white scramble this morning! So good on eggs.
I buy the CBGR by the pound. Which means I never have the marinade recipe handy. Can someone post it? I promise to write it down this time
Had KOJ coffee on Saturday. If I grind extra I put it in a grill rub blend and I have also thrown it in Choc Chip cookie dough.
I use a lot of the Jumpin Jumby season salt. And roasted garlic pepper - both ground and whole peppercorns.
Use Calypso Sprinkle in my husband's egg cups that he takes to work.
Island Herb blend in a butter sauce over fish.
Roasted Garlic Champagne mustard. YUM!
Mango Jam will always take me back to my 1st island visit. It's nice to have it at home from time to time.
I love the place ... and the people!

Dinner tonight is chicken rubbed with SJS Co garam masala and marinated in Valley Doll Hot Sauce! Grill it over low heat and it turns normally bland chicken into a St John treat!! I'd be all set if only I could make some conch fritters for an appetizer and wash it all down with a few Beach Bar painkillers!!
