Snorkeling Jumbie
Oh yes, we always look forward to snorkeling Jumbie. But what you see and where you can go is all determined by the waves on the North Shore. Swim off to the right of the beach and you'll come to a reef which you can follow out from shore for quite a ways. When you get to the end you can go around it and all the way over to Trunk if you like. Last summer on a real calm day we could actually swim over the reef (it's pretty shallow so be careful) and saw an abundance of colorful coral and fish that we'd been unable to see before. There's also some fairly good snorkeling off the left side of the beach but we prefer the right.
Jumbie is one of our favorites. Snorkel to the left and around the point being careful of the firecoral. We've seen nurse sharks and rays and lots of the usual suspects. One time we found 2 huge permit fish. Way cool. On the right side the snorkeling is good too but be careful of the very shallow areas in the reef. It's easy to get lost and have a hard time finding your way back out of the laberinth of coral.
We've always enjoyed Jumbie as well. I concur with the thoughts on weather and direction. Last year we were able to travel quite a distance going to the left even saw a small octapus. If you go really far to the left you can pull up on a small very rocky beach, it's a needed resting point for that distance, but the coral right around the beach is fantastic.
