Where to buy the cheapest suntan lotion

Post by vacagirl »

I am wondering where on St. John would be the cheapest suntan lotion? I will not be stopping on St. Thomas so I need to know about St. John.
I am also wondering where are some of the cheapest places to rent snorkle gear?

If you are staying at a villa, you might want to wait until you get there. We always run a pronounced surplus of suntan lotion, and leave a large labeled Tupperware box in the laundry room for guests to pick from, and leave their surplus. There is a drugstore above the Starfish Market, and you could try the Bayside Mini-Mart across from Joe's Diner in Cruz Bay (it also serves as the entrance to Rhumb Lines). For snorkel gear, try Low Key Watersports (a bit past Wharfside Village in Cruz Bay), but buying your own gear at http://www.scuba.com is inexpensive; a set of mask, dry snorkel, mesh bag, and full foot fins will be ~$150; ~$200 if you need a prescription mask. Having your own gear assures fit and comfort, but it is more stuff to deal with on the way down and back. On the rental front, a bit cheaper, but further away, is Crabby's Watersports in Coral Bay.

Low Key Watersports would be a good place to get snorkel gear. I would stop by in the morning and get some Donuts from C & D Bakery first then Low Key Watersports is next door. :D

Great idea Hoosierdaddy. All the sugar on the donuts would give me some extra energy too. I definitely want to rent the snorkel gear because I am only doing a backpack this year. Thank you all for your input.

Believe it or not, we found St. John Spice to have the cheapest price for SPF30.

Low Key for snorkeling. Check out their website for discounts.

If you are staying at a villa, definitely check with your rental agent. I think 90% of the places we've rented from had a variety of lotions left there.

I always ship 2 boxes ahead, including all our lotions, shampoo, bug spray, shaving creams.. etc. And another full of snacks, and canned tuna, etc.

By "cheapest" I think you mean "least expensive" :)

Count on paying at least twice what you'd pay at home.

Yes, I do mean "less expensive". There is really nothing cheap anymore. We are staying at a privately owned house where the owner lives upstairs. I am going to contact her about the lotion to see if anybody has left any there. I will definitely check out St. John Spice though, it also gives me a reason to go in there just to smell all the different spices. I LOVE THAT STORE!!

I'm not sure what good contacting the villa would do, they can never know what will be leftover when you get there. Villas don't typically supply sunblock, they just leave whatever other guests have left behind.
