I dont know who was looking for fares in January or February, Martini or PaGirl but the fares have dropped back to the normal $446. RT

Thanks for thinking of us Betty. I already saw the price change, thank goodness. I was beginning to look for non-stop flights out of Newark because I just can't stand layovers and/or changing planes. I'm hoping they run the early morning flight again so we can get there even sooner, but so far, the 10 a.m. flight is the earliest out there.
I actually was also considering Spirit Air, but lately have heard some grumblings about the Ft Lauderdale airport being extremely over-crowded.

I agree, I looked into Spirit too, but have friends that have had horrible experiences with them! My brother flys out of Newark and is always complaining about Continental, my husbands family flys American and can not stand them either. I dont think any of the American carriers really care that much about customer service. My husband loves the Asian carriers, they still believe in customer satisfaction, unfortunatly Thai Air doesnt fly to St Thomas

Yeah, US Air seems to be the only option out of Philly if you want to go direct or with a reasonable connection.
I considered American last year but the times were so crappy (leaving early but arriving late due to connections) Also, I really dislike a San Juan connection, which is where most of the American flights connected.
We did a US Air/Cape Air trip in February and the connection (or disconnection) between the two was really awful. Lost luggage on the way down with zero support from the baggage agents and misinformation about boarding passes/security on the way home.

PA girl - based on your recent San Juan experience coupled with our previous San Juan experiences, I will not do the American flights. I even have credit card points for two free tickets on American (no blackout dates) and will not use them if I have to fly thru San Juan. Ugh. Unfortunately, US Air has the only non-stops in the area for us. Holding my breath for a positive experience for next trip.
