36 hrs for polar bear?

Post by Ron in South Texas »

We are going to Kauai in 3 weeks and I have a 48 pack cooler. I'm going to pack it tight with frozen food and layers of techni- ice. I used it last year going to the Bahamas, but it was only a 24 hour turn around with no problems. Has anyone had any experience with a full 36 hours from start to finish?

I have to say I have never tried 36 hours. However we just use the soft liner from our backpack cooler (Chillibox), pack frozen items on the bottom and cold items (unfrozen cheese, lunch meat..) on top and our frozen items are still rock solid at 18-24 hours with no techni-ice.

I would imagine with a better cooler, all frozen items and techni ice you would have no problem with 36 hours.

We did a 36 hour trip Polar Bear trip (actually a bit more) and it was fine. Like you mentioned, it was packed tight and I used one layer of t-ice on the bottom, one in the middle and one on the top.
