Speaking of Conch Fritters...

Post by chrisn »

I'm ashamed to admit I've never had any...soooo it's on my bucket list of things to do for our upcoming trip.

Who has the best ones? And what do they taste like?

Aqua Bistro has the best IMO, Rhumblines pretty darn good too. Like a really, really good hush puppy.

OMG, Vie's were amazing! If I had to describe them they were like seafood hush puppies.... but that doesn't come close to how delicious and tasty it was. I'm so going back for more!

This is TOO funny. I was going to post a conch fritter topic closer to my visit....but, hey, you did the hard work for me!

I've had conch fritters at Shipwreck and Banana Deck. Both were great, IMHO.

And I agree with the others....conch fritters are fried dough with pieces of conch (tastes like clam/calamari to me) and other fillers, usually served with a spicy / remoulade dipping sauce. Little bites of Heaven, I tell you.

I would LOVE to try Vie's, but she's never open when we're there (in August).

Frankly, the conch fritters at Gladys' on STT nearby the downtown CA ferry are better than anything we’ve had on STJ, with singing waitresses and a variety of homemade hot sauces included. We’ve stopped there for lunch either coming from or going to the airport.

In order:

1) Sea Spray Marina, Abacos Island, Bahamas (had them several times, boat always ended up here, hmmm...must have been captains choice!)

2) Cooper Island Beach Club

3) Vie's

Vie's are amazing, but she seems to only be open during the on season so we have missed out for several years now. We keep trying to get some, but always closed for us (we only travel in off season). :( Anyone know if this has changed at all?

I'm glad this came up as I will have to try these new recommendations on our next trip!

I will second Aqua Bistro - sooooo good, I could eat them until you'd have to roll me out the jeep!
