Day Trip to JVD
Day Trip to JVD
Planning to take the ferry to Jost for a day, and just spend time beaching and bar hopping. For those that have done this, what are your recommendations for making the best use of our time? Thanks.
8:30 - 9:30 - Ferry from Cruz Bay to JVD (sometimes it goes to Tortolla first, but it doesn't really add much time considering you have to clear customs there or in Great Harbour on JVD)
9:30 -10:30 - Walk the main strand on Great Harbour...check out a few t-shirt shops, bakeries and bars.
10:30 - 11:30 - Early lunch and few drinks at Foxy's in Great Harbour (chicken roti is awesome)
11:30 - Take cab over to White Bay, get dropped off behind Soggy's - get cab drivers phone number or arrange to be picked back up around 2:15 (bartender at Soggy's can also help call you a cab if you get in a bind)
11:45 - 2:15ish - Limin on White Bay...stay at Soggy's and drink painkillers or walk down to one of the other bars on White Bay like One Love
2:15 - Cab back over the hill to the ferry dock...can't remember if it's 3 or 3:30, but know that whatever time the ferry goes back to STJ, it'll likely be on time and it's the last and only one going back until the next day.
SIDENOTE: If you're really adventurous, take the ferry over in the morning and stay overnight at Ivan's Campground (about 200 yards left of Soggy's if you're facing the water) and then come back the next day on the morning or afternoon ferry from JVD.

It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
The above itinerary is one way you can go. The other is to reverse it. Get to JVD and go straight to White Bay. Then either lunch at Soggy's (or one of the other bars) and back to Foxys for a drink or so, or back to Foxy's for a late lunch around 1 or 1:30 and take the ferry from there. What's the difference? Well, if you want to get to Soggys when it's busier and there's more of a party atmosphere, take the itinerary suggested above. Soggy's is MUCH busier in the afternoon than the morning. But if you want a quieter day, use the itinerary suggested here. White Bay is quiet, and by the time you get back to Foxy's it's quiet too. So it depends on what you like. Either way, good luck

I don't know what your budget is or how many is in your party, but a suggestion is to go with a guy named Stu. We hired him a couple years ago to take us from St. John to Jost for the day and it was perfect. I actually found out about him on this forum. We are planning our vacation for next April and I contacted him to see if we could hire him again and he said yes. If you want his info. just let me know.

Dan,
Here's Stu's email address. I don't know why it didn't show up in the email I sent you. If this doesn't work, just do a google search for Stu Scott, St Thomas Virgin Islands and it should bring up his webpage.
Hope this helps!
