Kindle Fire vs I-pad
Kindle Fire vs I-pad
I've been thinking about getting an I-pad, but the Kindle Fire sure looks interesting.
The price of the Kindle is also tempting.
If I bought Kindle, what would I be mising.

iPad screen is bigger, battery lasts longer, and kindle is only 8 gig, iPad 16, 32 or 64. I have the 16 iPad and I can only put 2 full length movies on it at a time.. ..bet that would be an issue on the Kindle. I have loads of apps and books and files on my iPad , wish I got 32. Not a big deal, i only put videos on when i travel. I can delete apps and put them back on later..not a big deal. Can't imagine the apps would be as vast as the iPads . If you ever think of the iPhone it syncs lots of things. FaceTime with family that have iPads/ iPhone 4s is the coolest. As easy as a click, not like skype. No camera/video on kindle
Love my iPad, never get on the computer anymore except at work...but then I teach with iPads there too!

I'm getting the new iPad as soon as it release in a few weeks. The android market is still trying to catch up to the larger tablet screens. I had the new Asus Prime and a lot of apps just didn't have the resolution. I returned the Asus because of its design flaws...a bad GPS and very weak wifi.

Its like comparing a calculator to a laptop....tons of applications you can use on the iPad, Kindle really focused on books and it does a great job there. Love my iPad, I never use my laptop except for work anymore as mentioned above. Also, I travel a lot, can put tv shows and movies on the iPad for viewing in flight, its awesome for this. Two other important points:
1. The ios operating system is incredibly stable, this is what's used on iPhone, iPad, iPod. I've had my iPad a year, I think I turned it off once so far to restart. Try that with your home computer!
2. I'm a total Apple convert, wife beat on me a few years so I was stubborn with windows....but Apple integrates everything. We now have all Apple in the house, from iPhone to iPad, all laptops, desktops, even Apple TV and Apple router (Airport Extreme). Everything is totally integrated, they make it simple. When I take a picture with my iPhone, it shows up on my iPad and Mac through the iCloud, just like magic! I can play movies from my iPad wirelessly onto my Plasma through Apple TV. I can play anything off iTunes onto my TV wirelessly also, like movies I make in iMovie.
So the Apple story goes way beyond iPad, it's total integration. If it doesn't work right, you go to the Apple Store and ask them to fix it, usually free. Try doing that with a windows based device.
The Kindle doesn't do as much, but its cheaper so there's the hook. So if you want seamless integration and more capabilities long term, go iPad. If you really just want an electronic method to read a book, go Kindle.
By the way, you still need paperbacks anyhow. You can't turn on your electronic device until the jet hits 10,000 ft, and I never take my electronic stuff to the beach.

I have a kindle for reading and playing games. It' probably the original one and I definetly like it for that.
I just want to be able to take something with me on vacation and down the shore (NJ) to be able to get internet access.
From everybodies replies, it looks like I need an I-pad.
Should I wait till the new version comes out?

I have an original nook, only good to read books. I rarely use it since getting the iPad since most of my reading is at night, and I would need a light. Ido use it when taking a bath, at and in the pool or beach. Unfortunately I have only been in the bath in recent months
. I bought a waterproof sleeve for the nook much like the bags used to hold wallets while snorkeling. I would not take the iPad near water..too expensive.

Agree with some of the other comments here. I just got the kindle fire myself, so thought I would share.
I too was debating the ipad, but when it comes right down to it, what did I need it for and for that price, plus an addl monthly fee for 3g?
We already have 2 laptops and both hubby and I have iphone. What did I need that additional device for, aside from the fact that it is very cool? I have a camera and can do facetime via iphone. Don't really watch movies on those devices, so that didn't matter.
They are 2 different devices though. Kindle Fire is great for reading (never thought I would like it, but have read tons of books!), love Pulse for tons of news and is great for limited internet browsing and app usage (is not as vast as apple), no worry about flash player either. I don't think you can upload your own photos to kindle fire.
If you want more options as others are stating, spend extra for ipad or see if price drops/what new release brings. If you are looking for something to use as a reader and general internet via wifi, can't beat the kindle price. I use it quite a bit.
Spend some time on Amazon reading kindle reviews as well. Good Luck!
