42 cars parked at Waterlemon !!!

Post by Pia »

So, I just returned home from a very late walk of the puppies along the road to Annaberg/Waterlemon - 42 cars parked along the street and in the parking lot !!!!

Me thinks Waterlemon needs to be added to the list of "beaches that shall not be named" in trip reports (and certainly any beach that you find almost deserted) because once the word is out it's out and there will be no going back to the quiet that you once knew.

It was crazy - not to mention the 5 taxi's full of visitors that showed up as I was leaving :(

Wow! The days are gone when my wife and I were the only ones on the beach till noon!

Can you still drive a Jeep down to the little bridge and park?

Yes Presidents Day "week" is probably the busiest on St John. Yes you can still drive there but it is quite narrow (narrower than before) in places so I didn't count the cars that might have been there :(

I think our first trip down, You, Les and your girls were the only other "people" we saw the entire day down there....

Waterlemon is written about in all the travel guides and tourist literature as having the best snorkeling on St. John. I am not surprised that it was that crowded during such a busy week. There were over 30 cars there when John and I visited last week. In addition to all of the marked spaces being full, people had created a double row of cars in the middle of the parking lot, and were lined up on both sides of the road for quite a ways. Some of those people could have been at Anneberg, I guess. We snorkeled in a location where there were not any other people, but could see the beach and the cay and both were crowded.

Just another reason why I prefer the summer trips to the winter ones. :D

That is insane!!!

Seriously, if I see more than about 5-8 cars I groan.

Yes the "double center row" was there again today - good job I was not in the truck or there would have been no way I could have reversed out of a spot (it has happened in the past  )

However with all those people walking back from the beach and picking up even just one piece of litter the path must be looking practically spotless.

Yeah, between all of those thoughtful people and the trash eating unicorns that live on the Johnny Horn trail, I'm sure it will win the Sierra Club trail of the month award!
