Taking STJ rental car to STT

Post by 54b »

Long story short...wife and son are arriving day after me (it's miles vs cash thing)...is it usually against the rental rules or even frowned upon to take a STJ rental car over to STT?

I was thinking of taking the car barge over to pick them up from the airport.

May just be better to have take the cab to Red Hook.

Also, anyone know when the last car ferry leaves Red Hook for Cruz Bay?

You cannot take a STJ car rental over to STT. One nice gesture you could do: arrange a private land taxi for them. Then if you wanted you could even ferry over and meet them at Red Hook.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thank you...like the meeting them at Red Hook idea and riding back over with them.

I think it would be great just to meet them at the beach bar.

Congrats for wearing bigger pants than me. My wife would divorce me if I was the one going down a day early without the kid.

Thanks, Muhahaha...I only wish I had that much scene control....long story short...wife, son and I are going to STJ in late June with another couple and their two kids...even booking flights almost a year in advance, in order to use miles and get the 35k level, we had to go on two separate days and the flights available were at odd times...

We got all the tix with miles except for one, mine...wife and son are going on a Tuesday, our friends on the day before. Only problem is they will get in at like 9pm and will likely be on the 10pm ferry...so since I was buying my ticket, we decided I'd arrive Monday afternoon, check into villa rent one of the cars so I could pick them up that night and they wouldn't have to spend the first night on STT.

Not ideal, but we'll make it work...plus I'm bringing the one big bag and my wife and son will just bring backpacks and we're all going home the day after our friends leave...so everyone gets the full week and I'll probably spend that first day running errands to provision the villa while waiting for them to come in.

Now just have to hope all the flights are on time.

I was just going to ask this very question this week as my hubby would like to go over to Magens Bay for a day. Hmmm may have to rethink that idea.

As an alternative, you could rent from Dependable on STT and they will indeed let you take the ferry to/from STJ. I have had great luck with them.

Cory, have Rachel meet them at baggage claim and drive them to you at Red Hook. She'll have their name on a sign and will quickly deliver them to you and you can pay her then. They'll get a VIP treatment and you don't have any worries. I've done this before and it is a smooth system. You can email or PM me if you need any info.
