I am a huge fan of La Papaya, having stayed there 4 times. Our most recent stay was last June. I love the place and recommend it very highly. I think of it as a little bit of heaven on earth!
The villa is gorgeous. The living and outdoor spaces are very comfortable and the whole place has incredible views. Not sure why the downstairs areas would get a bad rap. The lower level has privacy, with nice shaded deck space but still having views through the greenery out to the waters of Chocolate Hole. The lower level apartment has two equal bedrooms, bathroom, living area and kitchen. The lower level master bedroom has its own bathroom with semi-open air shower. The apartment and the lower level master are next to each other but have separate entrance doors, affording more privacy. Our kids love having their own 'apartment' when we stay at La Papaya. The whole villa feels spacious and private, with great views and an amazing pool.
Again, I recommend it highly.

Thanks Susana - I did see your reviews and they are definitely complimentary! I am glad to hear that you think the downstairs area is fine.
There would be two couples on our trip - do you think the masters are pretty equal?
What about sunset views? Can you see the sunset from the hot tub?
I appreciate your help!

Hi jdw, I'm Suz's husband and I just wanted to expand a little on her response to you. One of the nice things about the lower deck at La Papaya is the privacy and the shade. The Palm trees and flowering vines and bushes envelope you, creating your own little tropical garden. If you are staying in the lower King Suite, you can use the kitchen in the apartment to cook your meals and eat on the expansive deck. There is a cafe style table and chairs for deck dining. When the sun gets to be too much, but you still want to be outside, the lower deck provides shade and protection from the heat. You do not lose any of the breezes that you get from the upper deck and pool, because the villa is so high up on Rock Ridge Road. Bugs are never a problem thanks to the nice breezes.
