st pete beach in February
st pete beach in February
SO i booked a mom and son weekend over presidents day in St Pete beach -- my 12 year old son and i were going to catch some sun at the beach and take in the Lightening/Caps game in Tampa on the 18th...but i am looking at the temperature averages..... and it looks really cold..... Will it be crazy cold on the beach? I was hoping for mid 70's..but 'they' are saying hi's in the 60's on average.....So, Floridians, please tell me that we'll be abel to have some beach time (since for what I spent, i could have probably have gotten to STJ for a few days.......)
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

What a nice mother son trip!! Not a Floridian here, but it may be chilly. We were there one year in March and it was freezing. However, I think it could also be great weather...you just never know. I think that time of year is hard to predict. Pack a variety of clothes and hope for warm sunny weather. I'll be wishing for balmy beach days for you and your boy!

My in-laws live not far from St. Pete Beach and we have been down several times in the winter months. Being from PA, even FL cold rarely stopped us from wearing shorts.
I remember the weather being hit or miss as far as being beach warm. When our son was an infant, we were there in January and on the beach, in bathing suits, every day. I know I got in the water that trip.
It has been a few years but we used to enjoy a restaurant in Passe de Grill (I know I spelled that wrong) called the Wharf. We liked to sit outside and would always see dolphins in the inlet.

It all depends but when we have been there during February and mid 70's was the warmest it got. Sweatshirt weather for me on the beach but it is way better than 5 degrees!
You should check this place out. You don't have to stay here to hang at the beach. They rent stand up paddle boards and have a giant fire pit to hang out at. Great bar and restaurant too.

We have had below average temps the past week but the next week looks to be above average (by about 8 degrees). Just like everywhere else these days, you just never know. The best thing is the sun is shining most of the time and the sky is very blue. Always a welcome change from most places in February. The days may start and end on the cool side but I'm guessing you will have some great afternoons of sun and warm.
