things to do on cruise stops? venice, greek isles
Took the plunge and going to Europe for the first time next year on a cruise for our 25th anniversary.
I know several of you have been to some of the places we will be stopping at so I'm looking for suggestions on restaurants, "must sees" etc. I'm familiar with the cruise critic boards for suggestions but I like as much input as possible.
We'll be flying into Venice for 2 nights before the cruise so trying to pick out a place to stay also along with restaurant suggestions.
The cruise starts and ends in Venice and goes to Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, Katakolon.
Any suggestions are appreciated-very very excited about this
, a little bit of worry about changing money, language, etc, but I'll overcome that I'm sure.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Money is no issue - just go to the ATM. You may want to let your bank know you are traveling just in case. Don't change money at any money changing kiosk - that is a total rip off. Banks and in Italy post offices are usually much better if you really need to change cash or use travelers checks.
The only issue is by then the Greeks may be back to the drachma! Greece could be quite a bargain.

We did our first trip to Europe on a European Cruise this Oct-Nov and it was a majical experience. Loved, loved,LOVED Venice--had only an overnight there but saw a lot in the 2 days. The sail in/sail out was magnificent--recommend the secret tour of the Doges Palace( as well as a regular one) and we did an early AM walking tour of Venice from Piazza Roma through all the side streets and over the Rialto bridge back through St Marks Square to the Vaporetto back to the ship. Great way to see Venice wake up. Most folks we spoke to also recommend a clockwise tour of the Grand Canal on the Vaporetto route#1.We were disappointed that there was very little action in St Marks Square at night for us, but it was at the end of the tourist season in Venice.
We did our cruise on the Celebrity Solstice, but did not do the Greek Islands. We did Croatia and Montenegro, Venice, Amalfi/Capri/Naples, Rome, Florence, Marleilles/Toulon( Provence) and then back to Barcelona. Would love to do your itinerary next year but DH now wants to see Paris.

We also did an overnight in Venice on a cruise. Wish I could remember the name of the little restaurant that we had dinner. It was delicious - down some alley from St. Mark's square.
Pick up the 24-hr Vaporetto pass in Venice. Take some time to visit Murano (glass) and Burano (lace). Pay attention to the Vaporetto maps and directions. We got on the wrong one/way and thought we were headed back to Boston
Changing money is no problem. Find an ATM at the airport when you land. Bank ATMs will be fine (at least in Italy). When we went, I had read that some of the European banks/ATMs only accepted 4-digit PINs. I hadn't run into that on business trips to Ireland, but we made the change before we left, just in case.
Enjoy!

I've read how beautiful the in/out of Venice is. I'm glad we decided to spend a few extra days there, though I'm sure that will be too short even. The photos look so beautiful.
Santorini has been on my lists for a while too, glad that I was able to find a 7 day cruise that covered both of them. May is probably both of our busiest work times, but there's only one 25th and otherwise we would have had to wait until the end of November and then I was concerned about the Venice rains.
Thanks again for the tips!
