Wow, seems tight to me. We left in the afternoon mid week to red hook and it took us an hour and 50 minutes from leaving to airport. Is the 6am the red hook ferry? Maybe it's different for the earliest ferry but it took forever for them to unload luggage and we only had two medium bags. Then there was a lot of traffic. I don't know how busy the roads are at 630 on STT. We had our boarding passes and no bags to check and it still took probably another 45 minutes in line unless I've read where if you have lots of luggage you can do the porter thing and bump past people, but that's another story.
I say no - I have arrived as early as 6:50am and as late as 7:20am when catching the 6am ferry and remember if you are not at the counter 60 mins before flight you are not flying.
I have done it several times - but only when I have some one take me over on the car barge, I have my ticket printed and only have carry on. It is the taxi ride from Red Hook to the airport that can be the real killer. The other thing to remember is that customs doesn't open until 6:30 so there is no reason to arrive 2 hours before your departure.
cindygad: The 9AM AA departures to MIA are only available while Standard Time is in effect in the states. When we go back to Daylight Savings Time those departures from STT will move to 8AM...
Thank you now it is all making sense. We have always traveled to St John in Jan before. Our family vacation will be the first we have traveled there in June.
I am now really confused trying to follow all of this especially with clocks forward/backward. My friends and I are going in May. If we are on the 6 AM ferry to Red Hook, can we make a 9:25 AM flight?
