Snorkeling for Lobster

Post by 5under »

Does anyone know and recommend someone in STJ that offers snorkeling for Lobster trips?

Hmmmm....what do you mean by snorkeling for lobster? Are you planning on catching one to cook? I have seen lobsters many times while out snorkeling. Saw a huge one in the rocks at Trunk last week and yesterday saw one at Haulover. Just keep your eyes open:)

Yeah I saw a huge one under some rocks at Jumbie. Was looking for eels and instead found a giant lobster.

do you guys dive under the water to see those? I just can't get the hang of doing that. I must practice. I know I'll see more stuff if I dive down.

No, I never have got the hang of that either. There's some breathing technique that helps but I'm a failure at it.

At Jumbie, there are some real shallow areas and I saw him there.

I use to have a hard time wiht it. So I practiced it over and over agian in a pool. I also was forced to learn how by my dive instructor  . If you tip your head to face the surface as you come up, you loose most of the water in your snorkel. Then just blow hard. I do love to get down close! :D

I tried diving down alot on my last trip in November. We went out with Capt. Phil and he said the key to getting down fast is to bend at the waist and go straight down. Easier said than done, but was fun to try.

The funny part of this is, that I'm a good swimmer.. For some reason I just can't get the hang of diving down with a snorkel. It's almost like I start to panic, even though I know how to hold my breath... Oh well, It's nice to see I'm not the only one. :o

Are you using an open snorkel or one with a divise that doesn't let water in? I think it is much easier with a Dry Snorkel.
