Day 2 on Island Report. Solomon Bay

Post by hoosierdaddy »

First visit to Solomom and Honeymoon and we loved it. After breakfast in the villa we were at the National Park Building at about 9:30. We took a quick walk through and then headed to Deli Grotto. We bought sandwiches and I got a crack bar. The owner told me they are not officily call Crack Bar but people often refer to them by that name. We had parked along the road to the National Park building so we took our lunch and picked up our backpack and chairs and headed to the Lind point trail. 20-25 minutes later we were at Solomon. Our new favorite beach on St. John it is beautiful and not very crouded. About 12 people on the beach at any given time. Lunch was dry good. Snorkeled around the point to Honeymoon are walked the beach before snorkeling back. Snorkeling was great. Stayed until the sun went down and were the only ones there. Took the upper trail on the way back and took pictures of Cruz Bay and of the sunset over St. Thomas. Great view. Back at the bills and prepairing for dinner. Hoosiermommy wants to try the Banana Deck.[/quote]

This is in my top three places to be on island. Along with Maho in the afternoon I would consider it my mental happy place.

I would call 12 people at Solomon crowded. We generally do not see over 5 or 6 people there and we go during off-season. I was shocked in our late October trip this year to see 17 people there at one point. At least everyone observed the "Solomon mindset", tranquility prevailed and it was an enjoyable day (except for the naked dude). Many of the visitors were Cruise ship guests that had hiked in from the ferry so I guess we need to check the cruise ship schedules more carefully when planning our Solomon days in the future. Next time you go, snorkel the left side accross the dingy access. I have been able to catch sight of octopus over there before. Very cool to watch.

I love honeymoon and Solomon but like to come in from Caneel and stop and have a drink on way out!
