No Parking at Cinnamon Bay?
No Parking at Cinnamon Bay?
On the Frank Barnako website - News of St John - it is reported today that the campground parking lot at Cinnamon Bay is now restricted to registered guests cars only and that the Park Service has signs indicating that it will be enforcing this with $175 boot fees to anyone parking there that is not displaying a permit issued from the Campground office. This seems a bit excessive to me but certainly not out of the realm of Park planning ideas - Has anyone been by there lately that can confirm this new regulation?
Will there be any designated lot or road parking available that provides access for local VI residents or even visitors with rental cars who are not registered at Cinnamon Bay?
His website generally is a very reliable source of info however
I am not computer savvy enough to post a link but maybe someone can help with that. The on-site comment section relating to this post is enlightening as well.

Exit Zero- I am not sure what the situation is- we were there last week but did not make it to Cinnamon (alas). Found easy parking at Trunk (low season and no ships- yea!) We also used the new lot at Maho- not a huge lot but quite a few spaces. Again- it's low season. Really hoping they have not completely cut off Cinnamon. Here's the link to the Barnako blog:

Those signs have been up at Cinnamon for a little while, they were there when I visited in August. It is not the entire parking lot that is tagged that way. It's most of the left side of the lot as you enter. Unless something has changed since mid-August (OK maybe change could happen that fast but I am skeptical) the whole right side excepting the handicapped spaces is still general parking, as is the lot in the back. And there's parking along the exit road also. Personally I don't think it is unreasonable to reserve part of the parking lot for overnight guests at Cinnamon.
As for Maho, it seems to me that there will be even more parking at that beach once the lot is completed. My group parked two vehicles in the lot-in-progress in August when it was still dirt/partly uncleared and I thought it looked like there would be room for about 20 cars when finished. Plus there is the paved parking area by the pavilion. Again, just my opinion, but I don't think prohibiting parking on the sand on the beach side of Maho is a bad thing at all.
If there is no parking at one beach, you can just drive to the next one...

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
