Taxi to and from Hawksnest?

Post by chrisn »

My daughter and I will have one short but sweet day on STJ in November. We are arriving in STT on a wedding cruise, and since we have our priorities straight...will head straight over to STJ.

Since we always do villa vacations to STJ, I am clueless about cruise tripping.

Can anyone tell me if we will be able to taxi over to Hawksnest...then make arrangements to have them pick us up at the appointed time? I def don't want to do Trunk or Cinnamon. Honeymoon would be my first choice but I think with time constraints, that's not the smartest option.

Guess I can always whip out my index if the need arises LOL! I highly doubt either one of us would be the least bit upset if we missed departure! In fact, depending on if alchohol is involved...we may just do it on purpose and shed a couple fake tears.

hmmm is caneel still closed then? maybe not such a good idea after all if so./....
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

That was my original plan. I just wasn't sure about it with the extra hiking in time required. Does anyone know if Caneel will still be closed December 2nd?

We've always daytripped from STT but next year will be staying on STJ :) I kind of know the STJ beaches but not nearly as well as all of you.

Isn't Hawksnest closer to Cruz Bay than Caneel (and walk in to Honeymoon)? We have done Honeymoon and I'd really like to try Hawksnest this time. Does it have grills? Someone told me it does. And will a taxi be able to drop us off there? Is the beach right near the road or will we have to walk a trail? Anyone know the taxi rate?

This is probably going to be the 1st of many questions since in a way we're newbies. We're staying at Grande Bay (no car). I think we'll really like being able to walk around to the stores and local food places. :)

chrisn,
The walk from the taxi parking at Caneel to Honeymoon is only 10 minutes each way, top. I believe you can always use the beach at Caneels beach also, you are not supposed to use the chairs. That leaves the bar and resturant at your disposal. I agree with loria that it will be much easier to catch a taxi back to the dock from Caneel than from Hawksnest.

Caneel is closer to Cruz Bay

I believe it does but they are away from the beachfront.

And will a taxi be able to drop us off there?
Yes.

Is the beach right near the road or will we have to walk a trail?
Hawksnest beach is a very short walk from the parking lot.

Anyone know the taxi rate?
You can find the taxi rates here:
http://www.vinow.com/stjohn/getting_around_stj/taxi.php
Looks like $6 for one person or $5/person for 2 or more.

I remember during our last winter trip, Caneel was running a special that included a massage, lunch, showers, beach towels and use of chairs on the main beach for like $100 pp. ETA - it was a full day pass.

If you are doing a girl's day with your daughter, it might be worth checking into. I found it advertised in the Tradewinds as well on Caneel's site but it was sort of hidden under the spa section under other services (or something similar)

For some reason, as many times as we've been there, it always seems like 15-20 then another 5 or 10 to Solomon...but maybe that's just because I usually have my head full of Drama Girl's bitching about how fricken hot it is...and Snorkel Boy's complaints about his man rash LOL!

Hmmm...score one for Honeymoon!
