Airfare from DFW to STT?
Airfare from DFW to STT?
I have found flights on American from DFW to St. Thomas w/connection in San Juan for $540 per person round trip including all taxes/fees.
The trip is for November/December time frame (before high season).
What do you think about the fare? Should I book now or wait in hopes of a lower fare?
Thank you in advance.

That's a main hub for AA. Honestly it should be lower than that.
I recently purchased tix for Washington IAD-SJU-STT on AA for a total of $324 each.
Most folks on this board jump at anything under $400 -- that's the general rule if you're flying out of a major airport directly (i.e. not flying from Montana or sompleace like that). Coming from Miami, DFW, LAX, ORD, Denver IAD, DCA, Philly, NY etc you should be able to score tix for under $400 if you time it right. Sometimes lower, but not usually less than $300 including taxes.
If it were me, I'd cool my heels through the summer to see what happens.
When I'm looking to buy tix I check Orbitz just about everyday. Or you can set an alert so they send you an e-mail when something pops up.
There are a couple of other factors to consider as well:
1) Flights are flying fuller than ever in some cases, due to airline adjustments (fewer but fuller flights)
2) Americans don't need a passport to travel to USVI but they do to Mexico etc. SO alot of folks are switching destinations. Hotels in the VI are fuller than ever.
These factors can affect the marketplace.
IMHO hang back and keep a close eye. Chances are prices will rise over the next few months, then drop again around July.
Anyone else have an experience to share?

*Another fine scatterbrained production
Thx. Gromit. Although DFW is AA hub, their prices are always higher due to very little competition. But on the other hand, checking Travelocity, Expedia, etc. AA flights are way cheaper than other airlines out of DFW.
I'll probably sit and wait a while, but other comments are appreciated.
BTW, we will be there 11/25-12/9 -- two weeks!!!!
Thanks again.

I will never understand why flights out of Dallas to STT are so much higher than those farther away on the East coast!
$540 sounds about right for DFW. Hope your price only has 1 connection. The trick is finding the earliest flight possible to get to STT & hopefully make it to your STJ villa before sunset.
Luckily for us, we use AAdvantage miles to STT each year so it is not as painful to splurge on a nice villa!
Just sign-up for every AA miles program and miles add up like crazy!
(ex: we charge everything with AA Citibank credit card,(paid off each month ofcourse or it's not worth it), shop at Tom Thumb, use Gexa Energy for electricity, eat out at restaurants in the AA dining program, Hilton Honors AA miles, Avis car rental, and oh yeah, fly business trips on American!)
It was hilarious last summer when Cinemark Movies had a promotion with AA mile stickers on the side of large drinks. Nobody really knew to peel them off and register the codes to your AA account to receive miles. My kids peeled them all off after people left their seats & empty cups after movies. We racked up about 10,000 miles last summer!!!
Good luck with your airfare and have a 2 week blast in paradise this winter!
Only 100 more days for us!
