Pictures for the hungry

Post by awardb »

If you are like we are, and you're not on-island, you thirst every day for pictures of that place that you cannot wait to return to....you know who you are!

Here is a small sampling of pictures, of some views around STJ.

The third and fifth picture are of the just-started St. Croix Ferry recovery effort. This is the ferry that crashed into St. James island the night of July 4th, with about 90 people on board. It's been sitting there, beached, ever since. A recovery barge appeared today, and in picture 3 it's maneuvering into position, and by pic 5, it's hard at work recovering the ferry. Pic 4 is a pretty good-sized iguana right off our deck. The bay picture is a pic of Great Cruz Bay, taken from the hillside above, where our villa is located. Other pics taken at sunset from our villa deck.

Enjoy, all!

We shot photos of the wrecked ferry from the RH ferry on 7/5 during our walk of woe. I guess our "walk" was not as bad as that crew's walk. Has anyone heard what caused the accident or what happened to the crew and company?

We left our villa today at about 1PM, and they were hard at work on the wreck. Returned at about 6:30PM, and the wreck, the barge, everything was gone. So they definitely retrieved it today, Saturday. If we hadn't had other things to do, we'd probably have stayed at the villa to watch the entire project.

Regarding the earlier comment, as far as what happened to the crew, captain, cause of accident, etc., it's the usual STJ/STT black hole of info. I've noticed a pattern over the years as far as "news" goes here. For example, some big event happens (such as the ferry crash), and it's reported in detail. Then, as time passes, and we all wonder and ask the same questions, i.e., what caused the crash? What happened to the captain and the crew? What's the story on the recovery effort? Nothing. Not a news article in the local papers, nothing. I've dug in-depth online at least, and cannot find anything substantial after the original crash story. I've seen this happen many times. Have you ever tried to find out what is currently going on with the Sirenusa development, or the Grande Bay project? Hard to find anything current at all on any of them, even though we all hear rumors about lawsuits, problems, and more all of the time.

Not to complain too much, but it just seems that on the mainland, follow-up stories happen all of the time in our local newspapers. I just don't see it down here, which just seems to feed the rumor mill.

Maybe I've got it all wrong, and if I do, I'm sure the forum members will let me know.

Hi Awardb,
I'm loving the updates and the pictures can't be beat! We are staying at Cloud 9 in January. The sunsets look spectacular! Any other pics of the house you can share?
