Fishing from the Beaches on St. John?
Fishing from the Beaches on St. John?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me some of the specific regulations about fishing from shore or surf casting on St. John. We had a great time in Sanibel, FL a couple years ago walking out a bit into the water (and away from swimmers, of course) and fishing. Does anyone do this on St. John? Where are the good spots, if any? What do you use? Thanks for any advice.

It's illegal to fish at Trunk Bay and Jumbie, and at the other National Park beaches you hav to be outside of the swimming area.
If you are outside of the park you can fish anywhere as far as I can tell. I thought about taking a rod with me when we went but I decided that there was so much to do that I could live without it.
There are a couple of charters that will take you flats fishing instead of deep sea. That may be a better way to go since they supply everything and you don't have to bring equipment with you.
I thought about this guy. It looks like it would be a fun time.

In National Park waters; fishing is allowed outside of swim areas, but not in Trunk Bay and Jumbie Bay on St. John. It is illegal to use or possess spear fishing equipment anywhere within National Park boundaries. Fishing is prohibited at the following locations/times: A. Between 8am and 5pm at NPS Red Hook Dock and NPS Cruz Bay Finger Pier and bulkhead. B. Within all designated boat exclusion areas.
