For All of the Google Earth Fans Out There

Post by Steve S »

Have you ever seen one of these on Google Earth? It looks like a commercial jet (my best guess a Boeing 757) was flying under the satellite when the shot was taken. The multi color shadow must be a function of how they render the 3D images.

I was looking to see what had changed in the places I visited as a youth around the Great Sacandaga Lake in NY. The location is here to see for yourself.

Back when Google Earth first came out, there was a pretty big community of folks scouring the images. There was a group specifically looking for airliners, and I was surprised how many are actually in the shots. Hard to find, but there are tons of them out there.

Very cool, indeed.
