Anegada Charter Air

Post by RickG »

We're looking at Spring Break/Easter week vacation ideas and my 14 year old is interested in Anegada. The austere desert island with no cell phone or Internet seems to interest her; we'll see how she feels on day 3. STJ looks like a feed lot that week, so STJ is not going to happen.

Does anyone have any charter air experience from STT or SJU? Island Birds used to have semi regular service from SJU. The Ferry adds extra travel days, unless you add VG/Tortola stays on both ends. The best approach seems to be a flight to SJU and then charter air to Anegada?

St. Martin, Jamaica/Negril and France are in play too. Martinique and Guadelope look to be a bloody pain to get to, just as well as Ana might go back to her French Immersion school speaking Creole!

Cheers, RickG

Rick - Bill Hartzman from the TTOL forum has been working to match up charter flights, people and dates to fill up various BVI charters to get a a large enough party to fill most of the seats and make it more cost effective.

Don't know how successful he has been or if he is still doing it, but it is an interesting concept to act as a broker of sorts. I would think that it would work especially well for the high demand dates you are thinking of.

See about halfway down the page for contact info etc.

Let me know what happens.

Thanks! The air charter cost is looking a bit painful Miss Ana may need to wait on her Anegada visit. Maybe VG and a ferry day trip to Anegada may work better.

We used Island Birds for a charter flight (roundtrip) between SJU and VG and I loved their service. It was pricey but it got us where we needed to be with ease. It is quick, at SJU they take you through security (I seem to remember they had a dedicated check point for charters because we by passed the regular line) and right out to the plane. We were on the beach by 3pm that day so it sort of gave us an extra vacation day.

If you end up on VG, there is at least one company that does daily trips to Anegada. They fly out in the morning and return in the afternoon. I remember the flights being not to bad considering it included lunch at Cow Wreck.

You may not find it any easier/cheaper to get to, but is Dominica in play?

I've been there for day visits twice, and I'd really like to go for a longer stay...

I have used Ace Flight Center 340 776-4141 more than a few times over the years to fly to Anegada from STT - excellent.
There is a ferry option - I will find out about it for you Rick.

If you're doing BVI, I'd do VG with a daytrip to Anegada thrown in. You can go over on the ferry (certain days last time we went-make a ressie), or a charter like Double D. We like Anegada for a day, but staying multi days on island we've found is just not for us. If you do end up going, look for my plaque at the Lloblolly Beach Bar and tell Ceon and Charly hi!

chrisn & jmq, I'm working back through jmq's excellent trip report on VG/Anegada (and more) from 2008. VG + Anegada day trip is looking pretty good. I'm afraid the girls will get twitchy after four days on Anegada. I'd like to get back to VG too.

This is some killer classic TR jmq!

Thanks for the shout out Rick.

Chrisn's fun TR on her Anegada daytrip is here:

By the way, technically this entire thread should really be over in the BVI section of the forum... :)

Ja, I'm traversing a different semantic web...

Just finished reading the 2008 TR with #2 (14 year old daughter Ana) and Sweet Christine. We're going to book the sweet Easter Week air fare we're seeing and get thee to VG. I need to call Guavaberry tomorrow and see if they've got a spot for us. Thanks for the great TR, it sold #2 on basing on VG and doing an ANG day trip.

After this day in DC, I'm ready to head to the islands to cool off.

Aww thanks Rick and JMQ for taking me back to a fab trip (mine & JMQ's)! We did a week long cat charter with Mike and Jean Beswick on their beautiful Jeannius a year later. Went back to Anegada that trip. Snorkel Boy caught a black tip right off the boat at anchor off the island that night (unintentionally). Best trip EVER! Will be headed back to VG/STJ next Summer. Can't wait. I miss it!

RICK ------- M-W-F you can take the STT ferry to Roadtown and connect to an afternoon ferry to Anegada. I just spoke with 3 different people who do it often.

Thanks! I'm seeing some flights on AA with early arrivals that might let us keep our first travel day down to one day via ferry. Ace Flight Center charter is looking about twice ferry fees.

M-W-F -- it is RoadTown Fast Ferry leaving at 3:30 arriving Anegada at 5:10 ------- Tortola # 284- 495-2323 or use the US #'s 340-777-2800 -- 340-715-2800
Air Center is reliable and more convenient maybe on an already long travel day.
