Capn Dan and Ruby's StJ/Lovango - day 11 (Lovango 5)

Once again we were up with the sun and our beloved STJ framed in the door of our bedroom. We had been planning a stove top frittata with Lovango Eggs. We sautéed chopped peppers, onions, and the bean salad from yesterday, cooked some bacon and sausage, mixed the eggs with a little milk and some seasonings from St John Spice. I coated a small frying pan in Pam poured in the eggs and then the meat and veggie mixture and sprinkled some pepper jack cheese on top and allowed it to cook slowly. Now normally you put that into the oven, but because a problem with the stove the oven did not work, so when it was looking a little underdone on the top, I just flipped it over into the pan that Capn Dan had cooked the bacon. Magic! Served with toast it was very good!




Cooking was probably the most exciting things we did all day. The water was a little choppy, and I was feeling a little bit of beach gravity today. We did a walk down the Lovango beach with Marcy’s dogs in tow. They had a great time playing in the water and could not understand why we did not want to walk up the road to their house.

Marcie had gone to STJ for the day where she helps the girl who owns the stables and does a little riding. Come to find out that is where she got her horse. We stopped off at the beach shack for a little while and rested.









This is where I pretty much stayed all day, with trips back and forth to the house for things like my book, the camera, water and lunch. Lunch was left-over’s, but when it’s Candies bbq and left over spaghetti made into pasta salad who would complain!





More limin in the hammock with the book…Talked with Marcy when she got in, more limin with the book, then the mosquitoes found me. The Lovongo mosquitoes don’t completely hate the B complex vitamins as much as the STJ ones do and I finally started to feel them munching on my feet. (I did get one bite) I gathered my gear and headed to the house where I assisted Capn Dan with supper. Tonight’s dinner was pork chops with, what else, St. John Spice grill rub smeared all over them, cabbage with onions, and broccoli salad from the deli, which paired nicely with a St. John Mango Ale.




The excitement of the day came when we saw a strange dingy approaching with something that appeared to be a large cardboard box. Soon after Captain Phil showed up and told us it was a stove he had just purchased from Home Depot this morning. He said that he was at Home Depot this morning at 6 am then he ran a charter, and then got back in time to meet the delivery guy here. Wow!!!! It is just a little crazy what people here have to go through just to get every day stuff, that we don’t even think about, done. Now for rum and conversation before bed. Tomorrow is the snorkel trip with Dan, Marcy, and some of their friends. They are such great hosts!

Ruby, I am so enjoying your reports! You seem to get an awful lot of experiences packed into one day.
I believe "Dana" is the name of the horse stable owner. Went for a ride with her back in 2005. The views from horseback are wonderful! Try it sometime, the horses are all well behaved. Wish I could have seen "Winter" running on the beach. To ride horseback on the sand is on my Bucket List!
I'm going to miss your TRs. Can't wait for the next one!

What an amazing trip! Doesn't really seem like life could be any more relaxing than staying on Lovango. I am sure it is just what the doctor ordered. It is amazing how things work out bringing us what we need when we need it most. Such a blessing for sure. I am so happy we had the chance to meet you both. I absolutely love the photos of Winter playing on the beach. I would have loved being there to witness that. I look forward to the rest of your report.

Thanks yall, just like MSGColeen, I really would love to go back some day. Maybee when our ship comes in, or our kids move out and become successful! It was truely a gift!

Yes we did find sea glass. When we got home some of it was not as well worn as we thought it was but there are many nice peices. One is even shaped like a heart. I will try to take a picture and post it soon.

Thanks for these reports. You've really got me fascinated with Lovango. Not for everyone, but for some people it would be a dream come true.

I think the tone was set on your first day on Lovango when you sat on the porch and knew that with a view like that to look at, getting on the computer would be a serious waste of time. I was once counseled: "Don't just do something, stand there!" With every trip to the tropics we find ourselves doing less and taking longer to do it.

Did you have any second thoughts about going to STJ first, then on to Lovango? I imagine that's the way I would have done it--get to STJ first to slow you down so you'd really be ready to settle into Lovango. Some folks shift over to Island Time quicker and more smoothly then others. Some people can shift into it more easily than they can shift out of it when they get back home.

I think we did the perfect thing by going to STJ first!!! We were able to get into island time (it takes me about 3 days to be totally there), enjoy going and doing, and then we were able to totally relax and not worry about "doin stuff". Leaving Lovango... now that was not easy. I almsot felt like it was home and that Dan and Marcy, and Capt. Phil were our real neibors. We even got to meet their family and friends! (they are all so nice!!!) Leaving was like leaving friends that we would not see for a while. From what we read in the guest comment book Dan and Marcy seem to have that affect on all the guests. It has to be a gift, because you can tell they don't force it!
