What About August?

Post by greyhoundmom »

For years we have been the June and July people. Other than business closings, is it any hotter than July?

I know some people will say that there is no difference but I do not like August in the islands.
It is so darn hot. My least favorite month to be there.

We were there last year near the end of August. I did not find it overly hot or any more hot and humid than back home in new england. I would suggest a villa that has bedroom ac. We found we did not need it for the main house as we were on Bordeaux pretty high up. I will say that if you are thinking of a villa that gets direct afternoon sun with sunset view you may want to consider a villa with AC. We stayed at a villa in May one year that had amazing sunset views but it got hot in the late afternoon in the main house and there was not much shade on the decks. One thing also to consider is hurricanes. Last august it was stressful watching the weather in the weeks up to the trip given hurricane season. Hurricane Earl came 2 days after we left. Loved being there in August though. The beaches were empty, Jost was pretty empty. Loved that we had the beaches to ourselves most days. Restaurants were quiet. The only downside was vie's was closed and I had wanted to go there. I would probably do august again but closer to the beginning. Oh and the water at white bay was 90 degrees which I loved.

We were there last August....I thought it would be hotter than we could stand. (We had originally planned for June but had to reschedule due to the Pilot strike.)But actually I thought it was cooler than June, as we usually go then. I would have no problem going in August again...:)

we were there the 2nd week of August last year and we also thought it was unbearably hot! The pool water felt like a spa, and the beach was just too hot. We didn't like that time of year....

We've only been in August. It's hot but I thought that was the point of having the ocean, pool, beverages. Going again next month.

Hey burgec - we are from Kentucky as well - over in the Western/South Central portion. It is so hot and humid here today. I know if I had a cooler and an ocean at my ready, I'd be fine!

We'll be on STJ Aug 3 - 17...what about you?

msgcolleen - I am so ready I can taste it!! :D

We had our first visit to STJ last August. It was HOT and very humid... but nothing we hadn't dealt with during our sticky summers in NYC. Even in these less than ideal conditions, we fell in love with the island. We found the ocean to be a perfect temperature in August. We will be back again this August from the 12th through 16th. I'll put up with the heat and humidity for the deals we get on off-season airfare and accommodation rates :)

I love August, I don't think it's any hotter then July, I've been in July 4 times and once in August and to me it's the same. August there is no one at the beaches, everyone is going back to school so the island is dead.It was so nice, I felt like I had the beaches all to myself.
