Airport security and carry-on coolers

Post by Ann »

I have been reading the posts about what airport security is allowing in carry-on coolers. I would appreciate hearing from those of you who recently carried on your cooler with any tips/issues you may have had with airport security.

Just came back on Saturday. No problem with the carry-on cooler. As long as nothing is (or will be when defrosted) a liquid, you should be fine.

No problem at all.
We vac sealed everything, tightly packed the cooler with just food. No techni-ice, etc.
No liquids at all, even frozen.
Chicken, Lasagna, hotdogs, stuffed clams and our travel lunch.
They did not even open it at security.

My cooler was also packed tightly with no Technice, and although they did pull me aside and run a wand over it, they didn't make me open it. It really wasn't any hassle.

The beans and rice were both wrapped in aluminum foil, so maybe that's what looked funny in the x-ray machine. :?

Did not get stopped on the way down and we packed:
Bacon, hamburg patties, 2 containers hummus, american cheese, 4 packages of lunch meat, small individual containers of cream cheese and one sheet techni ice. After 36 hours, food still frozen!

On the way back.. forgot and put a jar of peanut butter in. THAT got us pulled over and asked.. "You cant bring this. Do you want to have one last lick before we throw it out?" Wise guy....

We left out of JFK two days after Bin Laden was taken out. A few soldiers with guns at security check point.
They opened my cooler, went through the frozen steaks chicken and burgers and put it back in cooler and we were on our way. No problem.
