JVD taxi's

Post by STTlover »

I'm bringing a few JVD virgins down with me next month. We plan on taking the ferry over there for one day. My question is, if we don't grab a taxi right when we get off the ferry and go to Foxy's first, will I have a hard time getting a taxi to go to White Bay when we are ready to?

If you want to go to Foxy's first, you probably won't need a taxi unless someone in your party has trouble walking.

The ferry drops you off on the far left side of Great Harbour and even though Foxy's is on the far right side of Great Harbour, it's maybe a maybe a 10 minute walk if that (even against the wind). And you'll enjoy seeing the other bars and shops along the main promenade.

After Foxy's, it won't be hard to find a cab to take you over to White Bay. They're always around. If memory serves, there's only 3 or 4 cabs and you'll get to know the drivers by name immediately. Anyway, whomever takes you over the hill to White Bay, make sure you get his or her name and number and ask them to come back and pick you up no later than about 2:30. The ferry back to STJ leaves at 3pm and it's the thing in the Caribbean that doesn't operate on island time. When they say, 3pm, they mean 3pm. And they don't wait.

When going to Jost by ferry, we have always gone to White Bay first. Having said that, I think the taxi's pretty much scatter after the ferry folks get to White Bay. I think the thing to do would be to talk to one of the taxi drivers when you get off the ferry and have them pick you up at an arranged time from Foxy's. Same goes with leaving White Bay. And yes, that ferry does seem to always leave on time if not a few minutes early.
Going "home" again October 26th!
