How about the dog who at the passport? Seriously, this is a London trip report .. read on if you care to!
Some months back my sister was planning a trip to London for her daughter's (my niece) Senior trip. She asked me to help her make the plans and asked me if I would like to join. Never one to turn down a vacation I happily agreed.
Our plans were to leave on 4/18 and arrive at Heathrow on the morning of 4/19. I was being picked up by a friend at the airport and the girls were heading to Oxford for 2 nights and then joining me in London.
Off we went to the airport of the evening of the 18th and my niece says "boy I'm going to be embarrassed to show this passport that Percy (dog) chewed on". I had heard about this incident some time ago but never gave it a thought in relation to this trip.
Let me be the first to tell you that a dog chewed passport = an invalid passport! We got to the Continental counter on Monday night and no dice. They would not accept the passport. No check in, no TSA, no flight, no London.
I was never so sick to my stomach in my life. My poor niece was just devastated but there was absolutely NOTHING that could be done at that point. So, we waited for someone to come back and pick us up at that night and as we should have been taking off we were in a local Walgreen's getting new passport photos taken.
Instead of being in London the next day we were at the Philadelphia Passport office to get an URGENT passport issued. It was an all day affair and we were basically on the edge of our seats all day but we got the passport and made the flight that night. A day late and a dollar short. WHEW!
Our 6 night trip got cut short to 5 nights but all in all we had a great time.
I gathered a lot of info from JMQ's trip report from last year so I won't rehash all that here.
Here's a link to a mish mosh of photos from the trip. For the most part my niece Allie took those on the Nikon Coolpix L100 and there are some photos from Oxford there as well. I took the ones on the Nikon D50.

Next vacation - a luxury cruise to Bermuda. Really looking forward to that one now!

Bad doggie!
I am really surprised that having the corner chewed off would invalidate it. I guess you never know.
When are you going to Bermuda? John and I were supposed to go in August but we booted it to September to make room for St. John. I've always flown in, never cruised. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the cruise option when you are back. Specifically, how rough the crossing is.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
5/22. Have cruised 3 times before and never really encountered anything too rough. We have always gone the week before or of Memorial day when we cruised previously.liamsaunt wrote:Bad doggie!

On one hand, I am flattered. On the other hand, are you not giving us your take on the sights because you are sparing me the lead pipe, or, it was all good and you dont have the time/energy/inclination to provide details, or, is there more to come?I gathered a lot of info from JMQ's trip report from last year so I won't rehash all that here.
Not that I am calling you out

PS some cool photos, esp the nighttime Parliment shots and the British Museum.

From your lips to God's ears, GraysonDave! The second one was in the carry on bag so dog had to stick his head in and find it. They must have gotten the meat scented passports or something!
JMQ, no lead pipe for you! The first night we were all in London we walked to About Thyme for dinner. Really enjoyed that!
As for me, this was my 3rd trip. I didn't have any real agenda of "must do's". I had planned for 2 days on my own but only got one which I spent most of at British Museum. As the pictures show I enjoyed my time there.
Also wanted to do the Eye at night which was great. I did the best I could on photos without a tripod. Not easy to do but one or two were decent.
My time spent with the girls was really just to enjoy the company of my niece and do what she wanted to do. Hence a visit to platform 9 3/4
and a 90 minute wait to get in to Westminster Abbey.
The crowds were large over Easter weekend. I can't even imagine what the city is like today. Fun to see all the places I just visited, though.
