trip report, Mar. 28 - Apr. 3, part 4, I think!
After shaking off our first fun-filled night with our friends from Michigan, we spent a nice morning just enjoying the deck and the sunshine. Off to Cruz Bay, where we did some shopping at St. John market and made reservations with the lovely Pia for a Jost Van Dyke trip. Thanks Pia! We decided on lunch at High Tide and while we were walking, we heard a crash and a bang and ran toward the sound, across from Connections. Unfortunately, a pedestrian had stepped into the street by the J.J.'s bbq sign and in order to avoid him, the driver of a jeep veered off the street and took out the fence in front of the Evangelical church. Ouch! Luckily no one was hurt but the pedestrian got an earful from the driver, and there will definitely be some fence-mending done in the near future!

After a nice lunch at High Tide, it was off to the beach! We were joining our friends at Hawksnest.

One of the simple pleasure sof St. John is picking up hitchhikers along the way, and today we were lucky to give a ride to two cool characters, Matt and Alan, who work at Rhumblines. They entertained us with wacky stories while we drove and our daughter tells us that this was the 'funnest car ride ever!' We asked Alan what was up with the sippy cup and he explained that he can't be trusted to carry a beverage without spilling...
He also had a crazy story to explain why he had purple toenails but I'll leave that one to your imagination!! We promised to look them up at Rhumblines later in the week, and be sure to look for a future reference to 'Smirnoff Ice' later!

After a great afternoon at Hawksnest, the whole gang set off for Island Blues for late afternoon snacks. As always, I got a kick out of the wacky street signs along the way!

Island Blues was great as always and the kids were thrilled to have their own table away from the wacky grownups, who had somehow morphed into kids while on St. John!

Heading back up and over Bordeaux Mountain, we noticed how unusually clear the view was - no haze. We enjoyed browsing the shops, bought a few souvenirs and headed back to clean up for the evening. The restaurant looks beautiful and although we did not make it there for dinner, it is defnitely on our to-do list for next time.

Chateau Bordeaux also provided a nice opportunity for a group shot!

Since everyone was tired after a long day, our daughter decided to stay back with the kids so we headed out to Rhumblines. Funny story...when we picked up Matt and Alan they told us that they and their friends had been playing a game called 'Icing'. Apparently it is a running joke that 'real men don't drink Smirnoff Ice' so they would plot different ways to hide a Smirnoff Ice somewhere, get Matt to pick it up, and he would have to drink it. I know, I know, but stay with me! We of course having reverted to teenage state while on island, bought a Smirnoff Ice and headed to Rhumblines, where we got one of the waiters to hide it in a napkin where Matt was clearing off a table. Gotcha! We all got a good laugh out of it and had a nice evening at Rhumblines...good tapas! We ended the evening at Ocean Grille at Mongoose Junction, where we enjoyed some wonderful steel pan music in the courtyard.

Tomorrow, BVI boat day!
