villa selection
I have never been to St, John before, so would like some help in selecting a villa. Looking for a great view and pool. Within my price range I am deciding between C'est Bleu, Casa de Sonadores and Mermaid Falls. Any comments? or other suggestions

Welcome WisconsinBob!
You are gonna love St. John! The first times the best so soak it all in! The jewel of STJ is 2/3rds of the island is national parks! Driving on the Northshore is spectacular as well as the overlooks to the beautiful white sand beaches.
The villas you have chosen are spectacular and you can't go wrong with any of them! It's just a matter of location and I would choose Mermaid Falls only because it is away from town and on the North Shore close to all the beaches you will want to experience.
You might want to check out Island Stones to see if it's in your price range: http://www.villavacations.net/detail_stones.html
Good luck!

We rented Casa de Sonadores in Feb 2010. It is a very nice house. If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer them. The house has many terrific features - equal bedrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, ample parking, nice views from the pool area, fantastic kitchen.
I prefer to spend as little time as possible commuting to the beach so the North Shore area is our true love and we rented over there several times. The location of Mermaid Falls is great for beach access (not necessarily Pete Bay beach though) and getting back and forth to town. The view from there will be amazing.
There are a lot of great houses in the price range you are exploring. If you tell us a little more about your wants and needs, you would get tons of suggestions.

If you can afford Mermaid Falls, I would definitely choose it. We went and checked it out and it was very beautiful and the views are stunning. We also had friends that stayed there and loved it.

We need a 5/6 bedroom villa. If 5 bedrooms, the 5th should have twins or some kind of arrangement for the two young teenagers, 10K would probably be our limit. A hot tub would be nice, although if we go in May it would probably be too warm to use anyway. May of 2012 is the time of year we are hoping to go. Starting early as villas seem to be chosen early. View and comfortable bedrooms are top priority, as well as lounging areas outdoors so we can sit outside and soak up the sun and view. Thanks all for your inputs

A feature of Casa de Sonadores that we like for the two kids (young teenagers) is the theatre room and rec area. They would both have to sleep down in that area, so can you tell me anything about that. Also, the views are a little concern to me. It looks as though trees may be blocking some of the views. I know the views from the balacony would be great, but what about when you are lounging around the pool area. My choice is Mermaid, but am considering Sonadores because of the rec room, so any comments you give me will be a REAL help. Thanks
We went downstairs once during our stay. It is a basement with no windows and honestly, it was a bit damp and musty. Please double check me on this but I don't remember AC down there. Maybe it was just turned off. That room is accessed by an exterior stairway and exterior door, not from inside the house. I am mentioning that because exterior access for kid rooms is a common topic on the forum.
I don't remember trees blocking the views. It isn't as high up as other locations so you don't get that top of the world feeling like some spots on STJ.

You may want to add Tesori to your list. Gorgeous views and the 5th bedroom is down below the pool so the teens will have their own space. The other four bedrooms are in the main house. It's beautifully appointed and the pool and outdoor space are wonderful. No hut tub but we didn't miss it when we were there in May.

Also, check out Vida de Mar in Dever's Bay. Five bedrooms, large pool, hot tub, and right on the beach. We loved it! Two of the bedrooms are in a beach house that is literally on the beach - I know one is two twins because we had a couple of teens stay down there.
Google Vida de Mar - their website will come right up.
