St. John Look-alikes

Post by islandmaari »

So we love love love St. John, but we want to also check out some other islands. My husband and I are both 31, divers, surfers and laid back folks. We want to find another island that provides us with the vibe of St. John. Where else would you guys suggest. Some places we are thinking are the Dominican Republic (but where?), Belieze (Ambergris Caye or Roatan?) and maybe Dominica, but not sure about the surfing there?

Do you all have any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Maari

I would agree with Gigi. We spent a couple of days in the Princeville area and Hanalei bay and I told my wife I felt like I was in St. John.

Maari,

Roatan is an island off Honduras, not Belize, and it is supposed to be an excellent diving spot. I've not been to Belize, but it has the largest reef in this hemisphere and I've heard good things. The beaches aren't as good (sea grass and narrow) but water activities are supposedly second to none.

When I think of diving and surfing, I think the Hawaiian Islands may be your best best. Look at Kauai or the Big Island for a funkier vibe.

St Barths -- surf at Lorient or Pt Milou
Great food -- really good wine prices - a very laid back vibe - art studios spread throughout the island - excellent hotels or villas -- very nice beaches - good diving 'plongee!' - some nice hikes [Colombier] - absolutely beautiful, you will want to go back every year.
