Getting a first gen IPAD from work next week and thought I would ask the wonderful forum geeks here for advice:
1. What kind of cover works best?
2. What are your favorite apps?
Thanks!

I have 2 covers. The basic one apple sells, which is a well thought out design that functions well. I also have a vera bradley netbook case that provides extra protection when I need it and works with the apple cover on as well so I don't have to remove it,which can be tedious.
As far as apps go I like 'star walk" which lets you identify stars, planets & constellations in the night sky. We used it in St Croix last month and it worked great! For fun I have a talking cat that's pretty cute (there's also talking dogs) I also have a older app that comes in handy, it's called "card message pro" it gives you 1000's of ideas to write in cards, Weird , I know but I never know quite what to say and this solves that! Have fun with your ipad, I love mine.

I never got any kind of case or cover for mine - and even though I love the thing, I mostly use the web browser (Safari)! I really don't use many apps outside of the installed ones - Safari, iPod, Video player - etc.
I think the "Apps" thing is sort of over rated - most everything I want is on the web already...

I have a leather case that folds to be a stand. check out www.cases.com for a huge selection.
Love my iPad.
Most often used apps... Safari, Open Table, Facebook, Splash Id, Tripit, games, StarWalk!
Enjoy!

agreed. although I've gotten some good ones for travel. a NYC app that was helpful in figuring out which subways we needed to take. also just got one for my upcoming trip to London. great maps and such.Anthony wrote:I never got any kind of case or cover for mine - and even though I love the thing, I mostly use the web browser (Safari)! My iPad was gift and the apple cover was as well... having no other experience, it seems to work well.
Apps:
The Weather Channel... Quicker and a little more refined than on Safari
Pandora... I never had an iPod, and have an limited number of songs now... enjoy the mixes on Pandora. (Thanks JT!). Of course, Pandora is also accessible from Safari.
Kindle... Really like this! The glare is pretty bad outside and I would not take to the beach (as others have said).
NPR... I like the hourly and undated 5 minutes of news.
Others I have but do not use often are Yelp, Open Table, Urbanspoon, Free WiFi, Twitter, Instagram, and iBooks.
Now I will be looking into some ideas mentioned here... thanks!

... no longer a stranger to paradise
I got a cover from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Imitation-L ... 05&sr=1-26
Amazon offers lots of choices. I wanted to get a cover from m-edge but at the time the iPad was too new and they didn't have enough production. I have an m-edge cover for my nook and like it for the ability to hold the cord . I also put one of the peel off clear covers on the screen just to protect it too.
Apps-if you like to read get the kindle and nook apps. I check out the USA today app often as well as angry birds
. I find myself downloading games and playing for awhile then ignoring them-dodge dot is an example. Doodlehang is a simple way to kill time when stuck somewhere too. You can watch tv shows and news too.
I download weather apps for traveling and for my home city.
There's tons to choose from, many free or fairly inexpensive. Have fun, I LOVE my iPad; sitting at the airport now doing this.

I just got the iPad 2 and I don't have a cover for it yet. As far as apps go though, check out Flipboard, Pulse News Reader, The Daily, Dragon Dictation, Kayak HD, AppStart, Google Earth, Netflix, Pandora and Weather+.
Flipboard is brilliant. Wish I would have thought of it.
Just downloaded 2 others - "ISLANDS Magazine" and "Welcome to the US Virgin Islands" apps. Haven't explored them yet, but I thought they may be of interest.

Thanks guys, I knew I cound get some good hints. I have a Nook, so I will download that app, but not planning on reading books that much on it, like the e-ink of my nook..but who knows. Interesting that the apple cover is the most popular here..thinking of the Targus truss cover after a lot of web searching.
