1 day jeep rental on St. John

Hi, everyone!

We are planning our upcoming 10 night trip in April. We will be staying on Virgin Gorda for 7 nights and at Secret Harbour on STT for 3 nights.

We plan on hopping on the Red Hook ferry and heading over to St. John for a full day of beaching and snorkeling. We plan to rent a jeep for the day so that we can fit in as much as possible.

We have rented from St. John Car rental before and will be checking with them. But, we were wondering, does anyone have any other suggestions re: car rental agencies who would offer the earliest pick up times and the latest return times?

We rented a jeep from Courtesy for a single Sunday in January. The soonest I was able to pick up the jeep was 10AM. I could have kept it until 10AM Monday and not be charged for a second day, but I chose to turn it in late Sunday afternoon.

Perhaps I could have picked it up earlier on a different day of the week, but I had the impression that Courtesy didn't know if they'd HAVE a car to rent to me until 10AM that morning.

That said (and depending on when you arrive on STJ), the earliest way to get to the beaches may be by taxi.

I just called and the only one that would rent to me was Varlack Car rental.The rest told me to call the day before we wanted to rent for the day.

Would it be better to rent on STT and take the car ferry over to STJ? Since you will be in STT for 3 days you could use it there as well and get it for more than 1 day.

I rented for one day from Delbert Hill's. I was able to pick it up as soon as they opened, but it was Sunday and everyone was at church, so I guess I was able to get it around 8 or 9 am. We spent the night and returned it the next day at about the same time, so I'm not sure how late you can return it. We had such a good experience that I'm renting from them again in May for a full week.

California Girl - you are the winner! Thank you for the suggestion. Got a Jeep for the 1 day - pick up at 8:00AM and drop off at 6:00PM. PERFECT!

We will be on Trunk before all the "tourists". LOL

(Now we just have to be sure to get on that 7:30AM Red Hook ferry.) Early start to the day, but WELL worth it.
