California and the rain

Post by Terry »

CA Girl...hoping you're okay. Just heard of an evacuation of your town.

It's sort of like a reverse hurricane. Horrid rains coming down from the mountains washing mud throughout coastal towns. Then the backlash is high tide coming up from the ocean.

I saw where Laguna Beach (which doesn't exist) has mud throughout the town and are buildihng sand dams to help hold back the high tide.

Horrible situation and I hope everyone is okay.

Daughters huge tree in front of her apartment was uprooted by water and fell on 4 cars and is taking down the power lines in a domino effect.

Hang in there!

WOW! We got super hammered last night!! So far they've gotten 26" of rain at Lytle Creek Canyon (near San Bernardino)! I don't know how much we've had here in San Juan Capistrano, but yes, the concrete levee on the other side of the freeway from where I live has washed out and they evacuated the homes on the other side of the levee. The levee (as they call it) is the concrete sides of San Juan Creek, which runs past the end of my street. It's usually a mostly dry creek bed with only enough water to grow pollywogs & frogs, but today it's nearly overflowing! The concrete sides don't begin until the creek passes under the freeway (I-5) about 1/4 mile downstream.

You're looking at about 8' - 10' of water here

This is the horse trail that runs beside the creek way up high, on the top of the riverbank (or levee).
