Photography on St. John

Post by blusbyphoto »

Hello, I am a photographer located in Washington DC and my wife and I are headed to St. John for our 5th yr anniversary. Of course, we are excited about taking tons of great photos in this beautiful setting. I have also been thinking about finding a couple or two who may be interested in being photographed. I am trying to start a portfolio of "Destination Wedding" type photos. We will be in St. John from August 11-18 and we are staying in Cruz Bay.

So is anyone going to be there during that time and is interested in having some free photos taken? All I would ask is that you have an adventurous personality and would allow me to use the photos in my portfolio and I will provide you with a disk of the images. If anyone is interested, we can exchange information and try to set it up.

Another question I have is for recommendations on great photo locations, not landscape type photos, but for photos with people in a great setting. I know the beaches are the obvious choice, but I am also looking for something with some great St. John personality.

Thanks!

Brian

Locations might include various ruins locations such as Catherineberg, Peace Hill, Annaberg as well as some beach overlooks (Caneel, Trunk, Maho).

Hi there! We will be on island the same dates as you...we have been married 10 years...so we are not a good couple for you to shoot. Last year I had a photographer take pictures of our family on the beach...kids playing....some family shots....was great! WE did our photo shoot at Hawksnest....Good luck!

A nice photo spot to consider is the really huge sea grape tree at Miss Lucy's. I've always thought it was a really cool looking tree. Of course, you would have to ask permission since its a restaurant property.

There was a beautifully scenic shot of some ruins and a view out to sea in someone's trip report recently. You had to hike up a hill from one of the beaches, but I can't remember the name. Maybe someone will know the place I mean.

I love the stonework at Mongoose Junction. There are probably nice places there too.

Hey Brian- My boyfriend and I will be taking a short trip to St John August 12 - 16 (our first time to the island!) We aren't there to get married (that I'm aware of anyway :) )... but if you think we might be able to help you out, feel free to send me a PM and I can give you more information about us.
