An update from the ST. John Source on the future of the Domino gas station in Coral Bay....
V.I. Answer Desk: The Fate of Domino Gas Stations By Lynda Lohr — July 8, 2010
We’d like to tell Source reader Pam Heath why all the Domino gas stations on St. Thomas and St. John have been closed for many months, but Domino isn’t talking.
We’ve called many, many times over the past several months, including just over a week ago and Tuesday, but we’re told that manager Marta Perez is not in the office. She never returns phone calls.
Domino is one of only two gas stations on St. John—and it’s the only one in Coral Bay. This means that Coral Bay residents have to make sure they fill up when they go to Cruz Bay or make a special trip. Domino’s closure puts extra strain on the already busy E&C Gas Station, leaving it without any fuel for short periods during the busy winter months.
Domino did have some issues with the U.S. Coast Guard some months ago when the agency found that the barge that transported fuel from Puerto Rico to the U.S. Virgin Islands was out of compliance, but Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said Tuesday that the matter is resolved.
“Since March 12, they’re good to go,” he said.
