Return destination?
Return destination?
Other than the Virgin Islands, to what destination do you wish to return the most someday? What sort of experiences did you have that make you long for your return to that particular destination?
Do you think your wish to revisit there is fulfill-able in the near (or far) future?

Many places jump out in my thoughts.
I would like a third trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico... in August to attend the Indian Market and some opera productions. Past trips have been in January and March (skiing oriented) so I would love to see everything during a different season. It is likely that I will get back there again.
I love the different terrain, the Native American historical sights and culture, the foods, the art, the blue of the sky, and the smell of chili peppers that fills the air.

... no longer a stranger to paradise
I have two places. San Francisco and Yosemite. And they could actually both be done on one trip.
Yosemite is an awe-inspiring place. Pictures don't do it justice. When you are looking down into the valley it's amazing, and when you go into the valley and look up, you just can't imagine the sheer walls of rock! It makes you feel so small! Yosemite also includes the Sequoias and Tuolumne Meadows, you can never get bored there, the scenery constantly changes and is constantly amazing.
San Francisco...I never get enough of San Francisco! The restaurants, the museums, the history, the landscape, the wharf, the art, and the BREAD! Just drop me in San Francisco and I'll be happy!
I will definitely get back to both because I live within a few hours drive from both. I'm lucky because I don't have to buy a plane ticket to go to some of the most awesome places in the country!

The Amalfi Coast (Ravello, Amalfi, Positano) and Capri, Italy. Absolutely amazing- the cliffs, the caves, the ocean, the food, and the wonderful people. Love everything about it. I even want to start learning Italian so when we go back I can chat with the locals more, although they are all so kind and many speak English well. Cannot wait to go back- hopefully in a few years. It's an expensive trip so need to save!
Another one- Tahiti. Went years ago to Moorea and Bora Bora- amazing- would love to go back and see more. Talk about really expensive.
Going back to Maui this fall (which we also love), but would love to one day see Kauai- heard so many great things about it on this forum! That's on the list....
Great thread- would love to hear more from others!

We loved Kauai and want to go back. But 11 hours of flying makes the repeat unlikely for a few years. We also loved Maui but it will be a while for the same reason.
We will plan a trip to the Bahamas/atlantis in the next 12 months. Also, we will be back to St. John in 2011.
Great question. I am really interested in the answers.
xoxo

Venice/Tuscany Italy-as someone already mentioned, the people are wonderful. I just felt Venice was magical and it wasn't crowded at all when we were there. Tuscany brings me the same kind of peace that St. John does. Slower pace, open spaces with few people in the smaller towns and wonderful views.
Another place that I can return to time and again and never get tired is the Rocky Mountains. We stay either outside of Estes Park or Grand Lake and love it. I think the air in the mountains is just so crisp and refreshing. We'll be heading there this fall.
I think California Girl's trip is going to be on my agenda soon. We are currently waiting to be chosen to adopt a newborn so I've started dividing trips into easy to do with kids and not so easy to do with kids!

Lesvos, Greece. Our 30th anniversary trip in 2003 trip for 15 days was amazing. Beautiful island, cobblestone streets, Molyvos Castle, friendly locals, wonderful harbor and tavernas, beautiful churchs, amazing food/wine/ouzo. Our hotel overlooked the Aegaen Sea. It was the best experience todate aside from STJ. The airfare is prohibitive now and the euro/dollar rate not great. We want to go back but will have to save for 2 years and forego STJ if we do.
Southern Orange County...Dana Point, San Clemente, etc. CA Girl has it all at her finger tips, I'm jealous. I go back there whenever I can.
Cinque Terra, Italy. Vernazza, etc. Gorgeous small coastline towns that you can hike in between and enjoy the views and water. Hate to say it but I like it better than STJ. So easy going and just different type of relaxation. Maybe it's because you don't have to worry about driving.
Tuscany area of Italy. As you all have said, it's gorgeous and very friendly. I'd also like to see Lake Como and the northern border communities.
There is no where like Italy. Friendliest humans on earth.

We also want to get back to the north shore of Kauai. We've been there twice before and love it deeply. We've also been to the Big Island and to Maui but the north shore of Kauai is what we want to see again.
We'll also get back to Virgin Gorda. This time I want to stay in Beach House on Spring Bay.
I also want to get back to northern Arizona and this time include southern Utah.
There are a few others, but they'd also require time travel. I'd love to get back to Nepal, to Burma and to an island in the Gulf of Thailand named Ko Samui. They've all changed in different ways that I wouldn't enjoy. I'd like to go back there if I could also go back in time 30 years or more ago.
And speaking of time travel, I'd like to go to Coral Bay 40 years ago.
