Ten days at Concordia - Part 7

Part 6 and Part 7 are very similar in that they're both short and devoid of any beaches. The sunburn we got at Waterlemon kept us in the shade for a couple days.

June 7, 2010

Today started out like any other except there were a few passing showers as the sun came up. When you hear those first few drops hit the roof of the tent, the immediate response is scrambling around half asleep to zip up the windows. Then you realize there are towels hanging out on the deck that were dry, but the rain has changed that. The good thing is they'll be dry again once the sun is out. The showers really only lasted long enough to get everything zipped up. Then we'd unzip everything again. Rinse, repeat. Once they seemed to be done we were rewarded with this:

With our backs still sore from the sun, we decided it was another pool day. But first we thought we should at least walk around Cruz Bay once. So we took our time and drove over Centerline Rd to grab breakfast at Deli Grotto. Delicious of course. Then we had to go find parking elsewhere for fear of being towed while being parked at Mongoose Junction and not actually being at Mongoose Junction. It was Monday morning so we just paid at one of the private lots. No big deal. We walked over to the VINP visitor center because I wanted to grab one of the free NPS pamphlets.

I have accidentally started collecting these things from every park I've been to. They make great cubicle decorations. I can just turn around and look at maps from Rocky Mountain NP, Shenandoah, Buck Island, St. John, the Appalachian Trail, etc etc. I think I need to go on a road trip and add to my collection...

After grabbing that map/pamphlet thing, we walked back towards the ferry dock and I snagged this photo.

St. John Spice was a little packed so I vowed to come back before I left to get some things. At this point I was still pretty hungry (breakfast never fills me up). So we walked down to the beach bar and I grabbed a burger and a beer. My gf was feeling a little sick from the drive over in the morning. Our Jeep seemed to induce motion sickness easier than it should have. Or maybe it was my driving. Hmmm.

Anyways, I ate the burger (which was pretty good) and we decided to head back to Concordia via the North Shore Road. This was my change to stop and take all the touristy photos at the overlooks. The clouds weren't really cooperating at most of them but I managed to get these shots of Trunk Bay

I got shots of Maho but it I haven't put them online yet. It was covered in shade so the photos didn't turn out that great.

We made our routine stop at the smoothie truck and then went straight to the pool. We stayed around there for the rest of the day and then headed to dinner at Shipwreck again. That place is so good it's worth visiting more than once on a longer trip. Definitely second place ranking (only to Sweet Plantains) among the dinners we had on this trip.

Then it was back to Concordia for some games and some sleep. After two days away from the beach we were both ready to get back out and do some snorkeling.

Beautiful rainbow picture!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
