Scone Recipe Please

Post by Xislandgirl »

I would like to make 2 differnt types of scones this weekend, a sweet and a savory.

I am thinking cranberry orange and cheddar and green onion.

I need an easy fool proof recipe...that does not require a mixer

X, I don't know about how best to add in sweet and savory items, but Joy of Cooking has a pretty simple, basic, mixer-free scone recipe.

Here's a good scone recipe...no mixer needed. I used blueberries and doubled the sugar by accident, but it tasted good anyway!

2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2/3 to 3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup raisins, cranberries or whatever fruit desired!

Preheat 400
Sift dry ingredients, and cut in butter until the mixture is coarse. Gradually add milk to make a soft dough. Add dried fruit and knead the dough 3-4 times. Roll out dough to 1/2 thickness and cut w/ 2inch round cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet, bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Makes 10(I made 12)

Good luck!
