Cost of mooring a boat in Cruz bay
Anybody know what it costs to have a boat moored at Cruz Bay,or any bay for that matter. Is it cheaper to live on-board as opposed to owning a home?

I'm not an expert on this and probably a local can help you more than I can. If I remember correctly, we had to apply to DPNR for a mooring space. We were told that we could have one in Coral Bay. Then we had to have someone put in the mooring. We paid DPNR a fee each year. Somewhere around $300. Our boat was documented so I don't know if that made a difference or not in the fee. From what I have heard spaces are limited.
Hope this gets you on the right track. Of course, living on board is cheaper than purchasing a villa. Depends on what you want to spend on a boat to begin with.

Thanks Jorge and Silverheels. No boat in my future, unless I win the lottery, but I was just plain curious. Looking at pics of the different bays with all those boats got me to wondering. It does sound cheaper, but I bet there's a lot of upkeep on those boats. And I think it would be a great way to experience our beloved Island. Hoping to reconnect next May with all things STJ. Till then, Be Happy, Don't Worry!
I just got off the phone with a friend who is purchasing his own boat and I will dispense here with the same wisdom I gave to him.
First of all, my wife owns our modest vessel, I have grown up and lived around boats all my life. I love boats as long a don't have to own them. So here it is:
"There is no wetter ride to hell than the purchase of your own boat."
For what it's worth, you've been warned.
