First Trip ~ Did I forget something?

Post by islandjo2010 »

Hi Everyone!

You all have been very helpful and give such great advice! May I ask for help once again?

We are getting so excited and can hardly wait...our first trip to STJ is about a month away! I hope I am not forgetting something! We are a family of 4 planning on traveling with the allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item each. Any additional advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have:
Plane tickets, villa and car rental.
Ordered the underwater camera...after much reading on the forum, went with the Canon D10.
Started to gather items to ship...sun screen, hair & scalp sunscreen, aloe vera gel, deet, misc food items & toiletries that we can't live without!
Started to gather the items for carry-on bags...swimsuits, rash guards, 2 outfits each ~ still waiting to see what size to pack for myself since I have gone from a size 14 to a size 6 :D , snorkel gear, snorkel vests, water shoes, flip flops, neat sheet, STJ books, laptop and camera.

Have on us:
Cell phone, pass ports, credit card.
Plenty of cash!!!

We thought maybe we would wait to see what the weather was going to be like during our 2 week visit to arrange the day trip/boat rental. Any thoughts on if it will be hard to book a charter with little notice? I hope not with it being off season.

If you can think of something I have missed...please let me know! I truely appreciate all your help!

Thank you all so very much and we hope to get to meet some of you at the BB soon!

Thanks and Best to Everyone,
Jo

Check, check! It all sounds good! I would buy a few STJ t-shirts during your stay since you are bringing only 2 outfits.
BTW~ What is your secret of shrinking down to a size 6? I'm working on it with not much luck! :?

Happy travels islandjo~ Take lots of pics and give us a trip report if you can!

Oh! And just touch base with the charter captain when you get there! Are you going with Palm Tree?

Is "Feet, Fins, & Four Wheel Drive" part of you STJ books collection? If not, I'd make it so.

Hats & sunglasses?

This will be one long month for you - but so worth it on the other end!

I always bring a flashlight when I travel especially to StJ where lights and power are sometimes a luxury. Every villa that I have rented has one but I like to bring my own. If you are planning to hike bring a pocket sized flashlight.

I think you have everything covered - This is small but I pack a lip balm with sunscreen and a small bottle of baby powder to remove sand from feet before getting in the jeep.

Ziploc bags in various sizes are always on our list. Talcum powder for any chafing and for sand removal. Oh, and a huge smile!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for replying so quickly! 8)

msgcolleen ~ STJ T-shirts are definitely a planned purchase! I have Palm Tree, Wayward Sailor and Pirates Penny/Stormy Petrel on my list for day trip charters. I'll send you a PM too!

augie ~ Yes, I have "Feet, Fins, & Four Wheel Drive" and "St. John Off The Beaten Track" and love them both! Thanks, I didn't have sunglasses or hats on the list, but figured we would wear them...will make sure to put them with the bags so not to forget them! I also thought we would purchase a couple of STJ ball caps there...something you can never have enough of!

byado18 ~ Thanks, I am sure the kids will not forget their music! That is great advice to take another camera just in case, oh let's not go there! Meds & first aid items I will add to the carry-on list! I will send you a PM also!

JJ ~ PM sent your way!

Toes in the sand ~ Great advice, pack a small flash light!

Kealani ~ More great advice! I will add SPF lip balm and baby powder to the list!

Thanks again Everyone! You are all so Great!
Best,
Jo

Hi Everyone!

More Great advice!

aroobagirl ~ I must add ziploc bags & I know the guys will have their Gold Bond powder in their toiletry bags!

bnsilly ~ Thanks for the reminder on all the chargers!

NC Sue ~ Yes, I think the list is doubling!

I hope most of this will fit in the carry-ons, I don't want to check a bag! I think I already have 3 boxes to ship!!!

Note to self ~ Remember to keep smiling and Be Happy while doing all this prep work...it will all be worth it once we get to STJ 8)

Thanks again and please keep this Great advice coming!
Best to all,
Jo

Sounds like you are ready to go!!

I like to pack those little crystal light packets that you add to bottled water. They are easy to throw in your bag.

And the flashlight is a must. One year we got to the villa and the power went out. NONE of the 327 flashlights at the villa were working and we couldn't find the candles and matches. Unpacking in the dark in a new villa was an adventure.

I'll never be without my own flashlight ever again!!
*Another fine scatterbrained production

I love the little key ring flashlights that you can buy at Brookstone - perfect for STJ :)
