So,- Which is your favorite beach, and why?
So,- Which is your favorite beach, and why?
I'm sure this topic has been posted into exhaustion, but how's about a recap of where you might personally find yourself the most comfortable.
This past trip in April was a tight race between Hansen & Gibney...
Gibney was the winner.
SO sorry to contradict my namesake (Mahojim), because Maho will forever hold me.
Gibney ...
Wow...
So what's yours'?
Smiles-
MJ

Hey MJ hope you and your sweet Amy had a wonderful trip. I guess I have to say Hawksnest first mainly because it is the first beach we stop at to get our feet wet and take that first sigh of relief with the magical statement "We are so blessed to be here". Then it's of to Trunk beach for snorkeling and given the time of year that we visit (fall) it is pretty quiet there.
Take care Jim

Our favorite was Maho for so many years, but
now it seems every time we go we have a different
favorite beach. All are beaches we have enjoyed but they seem to sometimes change each year. It could be the snorkeling or no people on the beach or just the beauty. It could be a new beach we just found. Right now I would say Denis, but we will
be back in June so I may change my mind.

Beach Creecher
Gibney's has been my favorite beach until we stayed at Caneel it's now my second favorite beach with Scott Beach now in the number one spot.
Why? It's the sand, the water and there are usually very few people on the beach. Obviously Scott also has the benefit of having beach chairs, plenty of shade and a beach bar to serve you. It's the ultimate in beach perfection. Gibney has it all except the chairs, and the beach bar.

If all of the beaches were empty, the water was clear and flat, and everything else was optimal, then I could fairly compare them.
To me, it's not so much the beach as it is the beach experience.
I love to be at a beautiful, relatively uncrowded beach, with my wife and good friends, with food and drink, and with available places to sit in and out of the sun. To be able to - on a whim - put on mask and fins and see wonderful undersea life, to enjoy a cold beer or other libation while conversing with friends in the water, or even to "rest my eyes" for a few minutes in my chair or on my towel in the shade.
On our last trip we were able to do all of the above at Maho, Salt Pond Bay, Little Lameshure, Vie's, and Gibney. So they were my "favorite beaches" on that trip.
But they only scratched the surface of places on the water where we enjoyed ourselves - some of our favorite snorkeling was done where the "beach experience", as described above, wouldn't be possible.
Fortunately, there are still a lot of the beaches that I've never even been to, so I'm looking forward to expanding my list!

Come see us!
Can't limit myself to just one
We're not snorkelers so with that caveat:
Maho-simplicity of parking and it's so calm
Salomon-you often have the beach to yourself-it's "rustic"
Honeymoon-beautiful sandy area -better when there aren't many cruise ships at STT
Even after 6 trips we haven't made it to Gibney and some others-you've inspired me-maybe this July!

I love almost all of them for different reasons. It's easier to say which beach I don't like, and that would be Jumbie. I go back every couple of years to double check but I just don't like it there.
This past trip our favorite beaches were Francis and Trunk. In July it will be someplace else, I am sure!

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
To phrase it in my own personal terms- Back in my GE days, we had a plant on Puerto Rico that I would visit 3 or 4 times a year. Had I known then what I know now and could squeeze in a day trip to St. John... I would pick (drumroll)
Honeymoon for the following reasons-
-Short drive or taxi from Cruz Bay
-Short hike weeds out family caravans
-perfect beach and water
-great snorkeling
-sometimes people for watching, sometimes no people
-best boat watching beach on St. John
-sometimes a bar cart from Caneel shows up
And yes the GE gig is up.
