Concordia Provisioning
Concordia Provisioning
I'm staying at Concordia in the beginning of June (come on 18 days!) and I just got an email from them about a provisioning service they provide. I stayed there back in 2007 and they didn't do this then. They just had a little camp store which was sufficient for a few small things, like any camp store. I'm guessing a lot of this stuff is available in their store and some of it they get from a market. I'm debating whether or not it's worth it. I was planning on going grocery shopping once I got down there, but it'd be nice to not really have to worry about that for a few days.
One problem is, I'm horrible at planning ahead for food. I tend to not think about it unless I'm already hungry. I usually make several trips a week to the grocery store at home because I'm only thinking ahead maybe one or two days.
Anyways, my other problem is price. They don't charge anything for the service, but that might be added in to the cost of the items. Could anyone tell me if the prices they are offering are comparable to the markets on STJ? Here are a few items I'm sure I'll buy once I'm down there, followed by the price they are offering:
Coffee - 12oz : $12.50
Local Made Wheat Bread : $5.50
Sliced Turkey : $6.00
Kraft American Slices : $4.00
Mustard - 8oz : $2.25
Honey Bunches of Oats - 14.5oz box - $5.75
32oz Milk : $4.00
Soy Milk : $5.00
Beer is between $2 and $2.50 a bottle
there's a ton more stuff on the list, most of which I can't even consider whether or not I'd eat it while I'm there (i.e. frozen meats and fresh produce). Obviously from the list up there ^ I know I'll eat sandwiches, cereal, coffee and beer. The prices listed there don't actually look bad to me, but I don't know how they compare to the local markets. Any input from anyone who has either used this service or knows the prices in the markets is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
ps - after typing all of this out, i'm leaning more towards just waiting until I get down there to grocery shop. it's more my style and what I'm comfortable with. But having some nice cold beers waiting for me is very very tempting.
and, 18 days can't come soon enough

Concordia provisioning
I think it depends on what time of day you arrive. If you come in fairly early then you can pick up stuff in Cruz Bay after you pick up the rental car. There is also the Love store in Coral Bay.
Later in the day though, you'll really appreciate not adding any more steps to getting to your destination. You could always hedge and at least have your favorite beverages waiting.
