STT with 3 kids ?s

Post by luv2travel »

Bringing our 3 grandchildren to STT in Feb 2011 and we'll be staying at our timeshare at Bluebeard's Castle. Their ages - 13 yo girl, 12 and 11 yo boys. They all swim fairly well and "dive" or more like jump in deep end of pools.

My question is should I bring/buy/rent life vests, the type you manually blow air for flotation. They love the water but as far as oceans they have been only to the Jersey shore surf. They want to snorkel.

TIA

if' they've hung out at the jersey shore, they'll be fine--maybe get some noodles for snorkeling in case they get tired.

Lydia,
I would recommend a short wet suit. We were going to buy our daughter a snorkel vest and the guy who runs the shop advised us that the short wet suits are cheaper than the vests and provide buoyancy. Works like a charm and keeps shoulders from getting sunburned! My daughter loves hers it really keeps her bobbing along.

If they are going to be really close to shore they wont need one.

But if they go out at all, you are going to have much more peace of mind if they have them (or a belt).

Especially if you aren't with them in the water.

Just my opinion though.

Even if they are good swimmers, if they have never snorkeled there are all kinds of situations where that could come in really handy. It is pretty easy to get panicked, especially at the beginning. Even for experienced swimmers. To be able to just float and catch your breath could be very helpful.

My daughters appreciated a flotation belt until the got comfortable with the water. The water will be calmer than the Jersey shore, and if it is rough they should stay out!

Thanks to all for all the information!

I will be getting them either the belt or vest. I use a vest myself (not a very good swimmer) and just for the peace of mind I will spend the money on something for them. What is worth more, cash or safety and peace of mind - safety !!!

Thanks again,
Lydia
