Drake's Lookout
Drake's Lookout
anyone stayed here recently? any info would be appreciated! Villa searching now for December trip!! Wooohooo!!!

My wife and I stayed at Drakes several years ago. Fantastic views! Very nice villa with all the comforts of home- much more like staying in a home than a villa. Talked w/ DSJ last week and a third bedroom was added to Drakes- sounds like on the main level- the original two bedrooms are both on the lower level. A portion of the road up to the villa was a real rutted challenge, but that's since been paved and improved.
We were there in November and our only complaint was the pool didn't get enough sun to warm it to be comfortable- definitely refreshing. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay there. My favorite thing to do was sit on the deck with a telescope and peer out into Drake's passage and the BVI's to the east...

stayed there in Feb of 2006. Pool deck got sun but the pool didn't. Water was frigid,,, wouldn't even put my toes in the pool. Views were amazing espcially for the full moon. Constant wind was an issue, couldn't keep the candles lit unless we kept the doors closed. Ask about contruction on the road. Noise from cement trucks, building etc. made us avoid staying at the villa during the "work hours" therefor no sunning on the deck. Can't imagine where they possibly fit a 3rd bedroom unless it was a constructed addition to the house. Nice feature to have was indoor stairs to bedrooms on lower level, most split level villas have outdoor stairs, which stinks if it's rainy. Very comfy/homey feel to it. Not quite private enough for us though, we like to be clothing optional and play our music loud without disturbing others so it doesnt quite fit our bill. I certainly don't regret our stay there,, was worth it for those full moon views but wouldn't return because we prefer a more secluded location/villa and it was pretty chilly with those winds after dark
We stayed here 4 years ago in July. The road was really bad then, if the road was still rutted out like that I would not want to stay up there again (and I have a cabin in the blue ridge that requires 4x4). Sounds like the road was repaired though. I agree with tjwgrr the villa felt like you were staying at someones home rather than a vacation villa, I think there were photo's and other personalized items laying around that made it feel that way?? The villa had everything we needed and I thought it was very private, jofus must remember a neighbor that I can't?? My wife and daughter skinny dipped a little and they wouldn't do that if there were neighbors hmmmmm. The pool water was warm in July. All in all it was a good villa, i'm curious where they positioned the third bedroom/bath. I'll have to drive up there next trip.
