Might be going....

Post by JT »

.... to STJ in May. Things are falling into place. Waiting for a call back from Windspree to verify some villa availability. Also car availability. Had thought of an April 11-24 trip, but car may be a major problem. Looking at May8-22.
Hopefully will know this afternoon.
We've never gone to the BVI's before but we're looking into a one day sailing possibility from Coral Bay. Any advice? Have any of you all done Breath for a day sail?
There's actually flights from DC area to STT for as low as $320. fees and taxes included. Of course not on the days that we need, but found a non-stop down and 1 stop back, San Juan, for $424. The thought of leaving here at around 9:30a.m. and being on the ground in STT at around 1:30p.m is pretty appealling!
We've never been able to get a non-stop flight before.
As always we'll stay in the Coral Bay area, just not sure whether it'll be in Callabash Boom area, or up on Majestic Mile. Will decide later today.
It's funny, yesterday there was no thought about going at all,
and then BT says she's ready to think about it again. That's it. Get sh*t rolling before she changes her mind! Bring it on!!!

Oh lucky you!

I just posted under the addiction thread about our cancelled STJ trip and how keep coming back to comparing the cost of a mainland vacation to STJ in the summer.

Our SOTB group did a sail on Breath this past November. The captain and mate were friendly and plesant fellows. I know we were at near or full capacity and I would say that with 10-12, it's a bit crowded. It's a very old boat amd there's a diary on board with some real unbelievable history of a family and its life and interesting passages on the boat. Anyway, the sail consisted of 2 snorkel stops, the first of which was just okay and the second was good, not great. Fine, we all know snorkeling is pretty much about the timing. The in's and out's with getting into the dingy from the ocean and then climbing the ladder to get back on the boat were not the easiest of accomplishments. Lunch was fine, nothing fancy but adequate. Would I do it again, probably not. Was it fine and worth $100.00 once - sure. Did I find it overly exciting - not really. I know one of the ladies has already mentioned that she would not be interested in a boat day like that one again. Maybe some of the other ladies will chime in. It's always so hard to respond to these types of inquiries, because what I might enjoy, you may not; meaning, we all don't like the same things (and thank goodness for that). Ali~

Thanks, for the feedback, b-as-u-r.
I'm not sure which way we'll go, but we'll do something.
Flight's are now booked, we're staying in the Calabash area again, Windspree is arranging for the car. Me, I don't care what the car is as long as it runs and has some rubber left on the tires. Two glorious weeks! I prefer 3 weeks, BT wanted 10 days, we agreed on 2 weeks. Same villa that we've rented twice before. Casa Nita is a little run down, you hear some road noise from far below, but we love the view, the deck, and just in case it's real hot, there is AC in the bedrooms. Also, it's pretty inexpensive and the proximity to Shipwreck Landing, Salt Pond, Lameshure, etc. counts a lot, though I don't really think that anywhere on the island is very far away from anywhere else.
I can't believe that we're going back there. I swore that I was going to go somewhere else in the Caribbean the last time that we left STJ, but the other places that I want to go to are just too darned much of a p.i.a. to get to. Like the rest of you STJ junkies, I'm addicted.
OK, I'm psyched!

JT,

Congrats on the upcoming trip. I betcha BT is going to live to regret not agreeing with you on 3 weeks on STJ.

We always say we are going to try other islands but except for the BVI's we have not found anything to compare to STJ.

As long as the car runs well enough for you and BT to make the trip to Chocolate Hole to visit the Grateful Shed, that's okay. I know you hate to leave Coral Bay when you are here, but you named The Grateful Shed and you will hammer one nail in that house. (You do not need to bring a hammer, Ron will let you use his.)

If you happen to bring a guitar and BT sings a few tunes, that would be okay also.

That is history before my time here... so, so cool!
Maybe a JT autograph somewhere too; the painter of my kitchen is an artist and he signed the wall just above the baseboard - I love seeing his name and remembering him plus the finishing of the house.

JT and BT - have a wonderful time!

Ruth, I'd be honored to stop by and maybe even lend a hand, if there's anything left to do by then! As to a guitar, I think when you get your digs finished Pete and a few of us should get together and get a permanent guitar to leave on island. Hey, you guys should let me know if there's any small items we could bring for you.

Margo, I just can't believe that we're going back. It wasn't just the winter that's been hard on us, there's been a bunch of personal stuff to deal with for the past year and a half and travel for more then a day or so was near impossible. Also BT hates to leave her brats, oops, I mean cats behind. Turns out my son and his girlfriend volunteered to not only stay at the house, but also give us a ride to and from the airport. The dough is a stretch for us, but what the hell, my thing about money has always been that I live within walking distance of billions, so if you need more, go work for it. It's out there.Plus we're getting older. Hard to say how many more times that we'll be able to pull something like this off.

Iprof, thanks for your nice thoughts.

AH, we,ve been lucky enough to spend 3 weeks down there once. I was really starting to get damned use to it, I must say. BT was ready to go after 3 weeks, but she still got all teary eyed on the CA ferry back to STT. My son and his girlfriend had just graduated from college and we took them down with us for 3 weeks as a present for making it through in 4 years. After a week, LT, our son, came up to me and said,"Dad, we can't keep up with you for three weeks of this. You'd have to check me into the Betty Ford Clinic." They did OK though.

Do it and go for it. Have a great time!

Gotta take advantage of life while you have it. That's why I'm booking Barcelona for a week this fall. I'm taking care of our bucket list while still working and can afford it.

Enjoy Life!

JT I love you. I just wanted you to know that. You are awesomeness x 10 and Ruth you are right there with him. We took a peek at the Grateful Shed last week and she's doing the name proud!

I am sorry to hear you guys have been having a rough winter. No one deserves an escape more than you two!

I want to be there for the concert. ;-)

Thanks for the nice thoughts and wishes, Terry and Coden. Gee, Flipper, you might not like me so much if you were around me much! My wife says I'm an old curmudgeon! Then again, she's put up with my grumpy ass for over 35 years now.
Concert? I don't know about a concert. Is there a concert during May that I don't know about? Oh, you mean BT? I wish I could fiqure a safe way to take a guitar down there. We'll see.
I wish we had been down there the other night for the Blues Fest. I saw that Deanna Bogart played and I have seen her many times in the DC area, everywhere from down and dirty bars to the likes of the Birchmere, Ramshead Taveren, and Blues Alley. She'a about 5 foot 1 inches of the Energizer Bunny. The first time I saw her, circa 1985, was in a bar that used to be in Bethesda, MD called Durty Nelly's. She walked up to the piano, looked out at the crowd and said, "Hi, I'm Deanna Bogart, and I was born to Boogie Woogie" and she preceded to back it up! She also plays a pretty impressive sax, which she learned from local legend Ron Holliday, and always surrounds herself with top shelf musicians.
